It's hard to believe that Aegis was two whole years ago! You helped me grow so much in that class, from reading my weird stories to letting me nerd out in my academic paper. I've never had another teacher tell me they "learned from me" before! I appreciate every bit you've done for me over the years, and I know my classmates that have you now really enjoy your class and feel the same way! May I just say, you're probably one of the happiest teachers I've ever had, and I mean that in the best way possible! I've had you for Film as Lit and am currently having you for AP Lang, and the way you always gets so excited and enthusiastic about literature is just really nice to see and makes me feel eager to learn to. Learning is always a lot more fun when the teacher genuinely enjoys it as much as I do. Beyond teaching, you've also been so pleasant and nice and just generally understanding whenever I need help, and that really makes a world of difference for me. Taking your class was a really big turning point on how I viewed my time and future. As someone who was a big procrastinator last year, after doing the 20% project I really was able to learn the consequences of procrastination. Once the new year came, I told myself that I would be better about time management. I just want to say that I admired your perseverance in doing your best to give us all a good education even as the end of last year got really trying, especially for you. Mrs. Parry, your perhaps one of the best teachers I had had in the past two years, possibly for all of school, and I don't give that title out lightly. You weren't just my teacher, you were my friend. Until my freshman year I’d never stepped foot into a public school so being (around) 14 I thought that the education was going to be “bad” or something (dumb private school assumptions). My FAVORITE teachers are the ones that get to the point and don’t over complicate their work. You didn’t get wrapped up in politics, you got on to dumb people and talked about how annoying freshman can be. Honestly, the class itself made me feel comfortable and admittedly you were (and still are) my favorite teacher I can remember.

Ah yes, the only AP class I’ve taken where I got a 2... Nevertheless, my sophomore year is where I really got comfortable with high school. I met a lot of my current friends in your class and I feel like you and your teaching style were what really brought us (as a class) all together. It didn’t take me long to realize all the extra work you jammed into your classes. The hours you’d spend during lunch explaining old concepts, the extra time you gave to me and many others not prepared (sorry about having to hold off on one of the Japan tests), all the ways you apply yourself as a teacher (NHS) and all your hobbies too (quilting, doggie care, predicting Dragon Ball endings, etc). I think ALL of that deserves some appreciation :)

(Not sure if WHAP counts as Social Studies, but oh well.) I think you might be the favorite teacher I've ever had at North. When I was taking WHAP, you made the material easy to understand and engaging, your lectures were always a delight, I liked being able to banter with you in class, and you just gave off such good vibes that I don't think it would even be possible for me to dislike. I never had to dread walking into your classroom, I never had to stress over this class and that is a compliment, coming from the girl who spends half her life worrying over everything. You are such an incredible teacher! I only had you for half a semester but FAL was so incredibly fun and interesting! It’s definitely a class that people underestimate the benefit of taking because I can now appreciate film for what it is not just who acts in it.

Mrs. Bates you are incredible! From the way you teach to how your room was pre-COVID (the cafe lights were amazing), you just go above and beyond for ALL of your students whether in English or NHS. Sometimes I wish I could go back to Sophomore year when things were simple... of course I’d rather not take anymore vocabulary quizzes!

From endless conversations about food and other such concerns to the actual concern that I was horrible at DBQ’s, your expertise and guidance assisted me to become confident when taking the AP Exam. Hopefully the students this year get the real test... because we got it easy(ish).
