Trial Court Rooms

This clearly demonstrates how the curcible "judges" (the girls) were reacting when they came upon these "witch" men and women' The ladies dramatized the whole trial, they made body moves that symbolized the demons taking over them. The people in the back also had to act to convict this young man of his "treacherous" actions. This really employs the idea that lots of people were wrongly convicted and how a court room would look to sentence these people to their deaths.

Death Sentence

This shows how the people might have been sentenced to death. Hanging is one of the ways the puritans killed people. They would all gather around and watch a person be tied up and hung. This was seen as a must-go event that all townspeople part-took in and were very proud about. After they killed the people they usually burned their bodies or dumped them into several of the lakes around the town. A truly gruesome sight to see

The puritans in this visual painting are clearly dressed in very simple colors. This is because they saw anything out of order as "sinful" or "evil". The Puritans migrated from Britain where their extremist ideologies were rejected, and settled on the newfound land of Oregon. They employed their cult-like ideas on them by telling them that if they do not live a life of pure actions, they will succumb to a slow and painful rotting death in hell. The Puritans also believed that only certain people are destined to go to heaven, you can not earn your way there and you are born the way you are. This tactic worked because, during the witch trials, they killed lots of people that rejected these ideas.

This is Joseph McCarthy, he was a republican senator for Wisconsin. This is the man who prosecuted people for "disloyalty" and "communism" in the 1940's and 50's. One of his most prominent cases to this day is the Arthur Miller case. He brought him in and attempted to try and convict him of being a communist without any evidence or proof, he did this by stating "You have communist friends, so you are a communist too" This led to an outbreak of individuals participating in McCarthyism, this is prosecuting a person for being a communist without evidence, only by proxy. This trend was seen amongst different individuals and politicians but was never as renowned due to the lack of evidence.

These were the paintings made during the Salem Witch Trials. These paintings showed what the puritans believed that the devil did to people. It's a clear reenactment of how these people were seen during the trials and the brutal atrocities that they might have went through. The photo on the left is a depiction of the "devil" and how he convinced others to be around him. The photo on the right is a clear photo of how people had their homes ravaged and died.
