It is prepared by salting a drained lump of cheese and putting it in a copper pot on fire with constant stirring. Cornmeal is added to the melted cheese and constantly stirred with a spatula until it melts and no longer releases butter. Many years ago, it was prepared exclusively for breakfast, before going to the field. Due to its extremely high caloric content, it was considered a dish that is enough for the whole day.

Its name consists of two words, bel, i.e. white, and husband - manly, masculine. In the Svrljig's region, the prevailing opinion is that men are mentioned because a man's hand is necessary, or that a man should make an effort to prepare food. Some say that the term belmuž means a husband with a white face and that it is the staple food of the groom.

The organizer of events and activities is the Center for Tourism, Culture and Sports, and the sponsor is the Municipality of Svrljig. The creator of the event is Milija Miletić, a member of parliament in the National Assembly and a long-time field veterinarian in the municipality of Svrljig.
