Firstly, no student is created equal, and therefore cannot be treated that way! They are entitled to equal opportunity and education- which sometimes means a particular student needs more help/tools. There is no reason a student with any sort of disability shouldn't be able to access the same education that a student without a disability has access to. Assistive technology allows for more inclusive and effective classrooms.
