Literacy is woven throughout all our topics. As a teacher I am continually challenged to discover and use the latest technologies that serve as literary tools

1. Literacy is the process of decoding texts by analyzing, synthesizing, comparing, contrasting, etc.
2. Reading the directions, word problems, interpreting vocabulary such as 'evaluate', 'simplify', 'solve', determining relevant information and jargon.
3. I would like to develop strong critical literacy skills. I believe it is important to be aware of materials/resources I'm presenting to my students, and the intentions behind them.

1. Literacy is the ability to read, write, listen, speak, think, analyze through a critical lens. I believe in multicultural literacy, critical literacy is an important part of "literacy" in general. Basically, critically analyzing any type of communication or media--verbal, non verbal, written or not, etc.

2. Not a teacher, but I taught ELA so the read, write, listen, speak is pretty embedded in there--unfortunately the critical and multicultural part is not a part of the TEKS.

3. Not a teacher, but I think the trainings I do could better emphasize critical and multicultural literacy.

1. Literacy is the ability to read and write. Furthermore, literacy is the ability to take what you read and write and analyze it, engage with it, think about it, and talk about it.
2. I don't teach yet but I think literacy is important regardless of what subject you teach. Of course, it would benefit most in an ELA or Reading class.
3. I am a Journalism major so I have literary skills but I know there is so much more I could learn and develop.

Literacy, as learned from our reading assignments because I'm not a teacher, is critical thinking on past events relating tocurrent events in the context of higher order thinking and learning where the students perform content analysis, thoroughly consider their development of interpretations and lines of questioning, and evaluate peer responses in relation to the subject matter, all leading to higher order comprehension of the subject matter.

1. The simplest way I define literacy is that literacy is the knowledge of being able to read and understand written text. 2. I teach all subjects. Literacy is crucial to any content area. 3. I would say I am constantly trying to find tools to use in my class that can help my students interpret their readings.
