The page numbers are positioned at the bottom left of the page and the manner it appears is very unorthodox and strange which adds to the quirky genre. It allows the reader to go directly to the main feature story as by this time they should already be intrigued by the dominant image and wanting to read on.

Colour Scheme

The Crack's main colour scheme is black and white, two colours that contrasts well and offer a clean, simple finish.
The masthead and text is always white which is effective as it contrasts well with the background colours helping them stand out.
In this issue, the background colour is a pink/purple which links to the model and to the story about his sexuality. The colour is almost a statement in itself and helps to make the rest of the page stand out which I think looks really effective and eye catching. Even though this particular colour is normally feminine, it is used to reflect the article and not to the audience gender.
It is used a lot on the website for the Queer sub-genre therefore I like that The Crack adapts its colour scheme to fit the artist and the genre.

Sell Lines

Not all of The Crack magazines have sell lines however when they do they are very subtle and simplistic.
In this instance the sell lines are positioned at the bottom right corner and are the smallest text on the page. This means they are one of the last things you look at.
I like the way the text is positioned and aligned as it is clear a lot of thought and detail has went into the process. It looks neat, tidy and professional and the spacing keeps in tact.
The language used is a list of names and bands that are featured in the magazine. I really like how the front cover text is straight to the point and doesn't give too much away. However, what it does do is share factual and precise which looks a lot better than magazines that overcrowd their front covers and exaggerate features to attempt to draw the reader in.

Main Sell Line

Magazine is very simplistic and lacks a lot of detail in sell lines to prevent the page from looking overcrowded. This almost subverts national magazines but as it is regional it creates a much more sophisticated and clean impact.
The main sell line is simply the name of the model. From this we can assume the main feature article will be about the front cover model. Therefore we can go to the specific page to find out more, this is a common convention of front covers.
The white font links well with the masthead because of the simple background colour and stands out well. It is the second biggest font on the page therefore it is the second thing we read and notice. The letters have been spaced out so that both names are equal in width which is very effective. The same capitalised font is used throughout the entire page.

Dominant Image

Image is extremely effective due to its quirkiness and extravagance.
The model features a contemporary look including controversial make-up and designer clothing which goes against social norms and flaunts equal sexuality.
The model featured is Mykki Blanco who used to be a music artist but after transitioning into a woman she now focuses on journalising homosexual culture. This is relevant to The Crack magazine as one of their featured sub-genres is 'Queer' therefore showing they are a mature magazine. It also shows they are non stereotypical or bias in what they produce therefore can appeal to a much wider audience.
High key lighting has been used to create a shadow against the back drop. A lot of The Crack's front covers incorporate this shadow which adds intensity and depth to the page.
The image is the main feature of the page and draws the attention of the reader which in this case I personally believe it does.
A medium shot has been used which creates a more personal approach and frames the page really well.
The eyeliner isn't aimed at the audience which creates a sense of mystery making the reader want to find out what he is looking at.
I really like this messy, quirky and aesthetic model style which I definitely will be using in my own magazine.
The tattooed topless connotation emphasises the maturity of the magazine.

The masthead fills the top three thirds of the page. This instantly attracts the audience eye line which allows the brand to be easily identified which is important when competing with other magazines.
The font that has been used is iconic to the magazine, simplistic, quirky and original. I love how the letters are bold, strong and masculine, they are quite spaced out which then forces the audience to take notice. The straight crisp edges suggest it is formal and mature but at the same time contemporary.
The image stands quite dominant without any overcrowding of information or features cluttering it which is more aesthetically appealing.
It is quite unique and individualistic which is important for a regional magazine.
