         <description><![CDATA[<div>Articles of Confederation-A league of friendships in which states were powerful and the national government was weaker.<br>Sovereignty-the authority of a state to govern itself or another state.<br>Land Ordinance-was adopted by the United States Congress of the Confederation on May 20, 1785. It set up a standardized system whereby settlers could purchase title to farmland in the undeveloped west.<br>Northwest Ordinance-provided a method for admitting new states to the Union from the territory, and listed a bill of rights guaranteed in the territory.<br>Northwest Territory-was formed after the American Revolutionary War, and was known formally as the Territory Northwest of the River Ohio.<br><br></div>]]></description>
