Usrah Week 1: Adab In seeking Knowledge

Assalamualaikum and hi! During our first Usrah session for Semester 2, we began with an ice-breaking activity to get to know one another better. This allowed me to learn more about my fellow Usrah members and our naqibah, Sister Hana.

Following this, Sister Hana provided a comprehensive briefing about the journey of our Usrah throughout the semester. She outlined our tasks and the overall structure of the sessions. There are two main tasks for this semester. The first task requires us to work in groups and create a roleplay, which can be presented either as a video or a poster. After discussing among ourselves, my group decided to produce poster, which includes Ain, Hatim, Iman and myself. We chose the topic: "Do All Bad-Ending Stories Are Bad For Us? "

The second task is an individual assignment where each of us must do an e-portfolio. We all required to update our discussions and reflections for each usrah session.

After the briefing, we officially began our Usrah session. The discussion topic for this week was “Adab in Seeking Knowledge.” I learned several key lessons, including the importance of sincerity in learning, showing respect to teachers and peers, and the value of applying the knowledge gained in our daily lives. This is the summary from the points that Sister Hana explained to us:

1. Intention when seeking knowledge:

The more we learn, the more we realize the greatness of Allah.

2. Clear and defined goals:

Set clear goals for what you want to achieve when seeking knowledge.

3. Humility and respect:

Even if our teacher is not a Muslim, we must still respect them.

4. Consistency:

Be consistent in revising your lessons and teaching others what you have learned.

5. Knowledge without action:

Knowledge without action is like a tree without fruit it is useless if we don’t apply it in our lives (based on one of the arabic quotes)

At the end of the session, we recited verses from Surah Al-Isra', and Sister Hana encouraged us to delve deeper into the meanings of this Surah when we returned to our mahallah. This reflection task aimed to enhance our understanding of the Quran and its relevance to our lives.

Task 1: Role Play!

For our first task, our groups were required to do a role-play, either via poster or video. My group which consists of Ain, Hatim, Iman, and myself, decided to choose a poster to present our role-play. We chose a topic entitled "Does All Bad-Endings Are Bad For Us?". I was given the task to do the Quranic verse part and explain it to my usrah members.

Based on the poster, it explains that bad endings may have reasons, such as Allah wanting to protect His followers, guide them, or bring them closer to Him. From an Islamic perspective, bad endings are part of Allah’s will and can teach patience and reliance on Him during hardships. They also serve as a test for how we respond to unfavorable situations. To cope with bad-ending stories, we should trust Allah’s plan, learn lessons from the story, avoid becoming too attached, express emotions wisely, and accept that not all stories (or life events) have happy endings. We also Included a Quranic verse from Surah Al-Baqarah (2:216). This verse reminds us that what we dislike might be good for us, and what we love might be harmful, as only Allah knows what is best.

Assalamualaikum! For week 2, we had discussed about topic entitled "Pillars of Islam: Hadith Jibril".

Based on what we had learned, Hadith Jibril describes an important moment when Jibril visited Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in the form of a man to ask about Islam, faith (Iman), excellence (Ihsan), and the signs of the Last Day. The Prophet explained that Islam consists of five pillars: believing in Allah and His Messenger, praying, giving charity, fasting in Ramadan, and performing Hajj if able. Faith (Iman) means believing in Allah, His angels, books, messengers, the Last Day, and destiny, both good and bad. Ihsan is worshipping Allah as if one can see Him, knowing that He always sees us. As for the Day of Judgment, the Prophet stated that no one knows its exact time, but signs include social changes and competition in building tall structures.

The Hadith also highlights the importance of proper manners in seeking knowledge. Jibril showed respect when sitting before the Prophet, teaching that students should be humble and respectful towards their teachers. It also emphasizes consulting scholars for religious matters, not hesitating to ask questions, and admitting when one does not know something. These lessons remind Muslims to continuously seek knowledge with sincerity and good character.

At the end of our session, we recited a few verse from Surah Al-Baqarah (284-286) together and delve a little bit to the meaning of the ayah.

That's all from me, thank you!

Week 3: Pillars Of Iman (Faith)

Assalamualaikum everyone! For this week, we discussed about the Pillars of Iman. However, we only covered three of them. Here, i will briefly explain to you about the topic that we have learned.

The pillars of Iman (faith) in Islam are the core beliefs that every Muslim must have. The first pillar is belief in Allah, which means believing that He is the only God, without any partners, and that He has no beginning or end. Allah is the Creator of everything, and He has perfect knowledge, power, and mercy. Muslims believe that worship should only be directed to Him, and He alone controls everything in the universe. This belief strengthens a Muslim’s faith and helps them trust in Allah’s plans.

The second pillar is belief in the Malaikat (angels). Angels are special creations of Allah made from light, and they do not have free will like humans. They always follow Allah’s commands. Some important angels include Jibril, who delivers Allah’s messages to the prophets, and Israfil, who will blow the trumpet on the Day of Judgment. The third pillar is belief in the Kutub (holy books). Allah has sent several books to guide people, including the Taurat, Zabur, Injil and Quran. The Quran is the final and unchanged book, revealed to Prophet Muhammad SAW as a complete guide for all of humanity. Believing in these books means accepting that Allah has always guided people through His words.

That's all from me and thank you for reading.

See you when i see you!

Assalamualaikum! For this week, we were discussing the remaining three of Pillars Of Iman.

The pillars of Iman (faith) in Islam include believing in the messengers (Rasul) and prophets (Anbiya’), the Day of Resurrection (Qiyamah), as well as Qada’ and Qadar. Believing in the messengers means accepting that Allah sent prophets to guide people, with Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the final messenger. These prophets received revelations and taught people about Allah’s commands. Their stories serve as lessons for Muslims to follow in their faith and actions.

Moreover, belief in Qiyamah means believing that all people will be resurrected after death and judged based on their deeds. This reminds Muslims to live righteously, knowing they will be accountable to Allah. Qada’ and Qadar refer to Allah’s divine will and destiny, meaning everything happens according to His plan, whether good or bad. Muslims are encouraged to trust Allah’s wisdom, be patient in hardships, and work hard while relying on His guidance. These beliefs help strengthen faith and provide comfort in life’s challenges.

Thank you !

Week 5: Ihsan

Assalamualaikum. For week 5, we delved deeper into a topic about Ihsan. Here is a summary of what I have learned throughout our usrah session with Sr Hana.

Introduction to Ihsan

Ihsan is mentioned 211 times in the Quran, according to the reference al-Mu’jam al-Mufahras li Alfaz al-Quran. In Islam, Ihsan refers to excellence and doing good deeds in the best possible way. A person who practices Ihsan, called al-Muhsin, has three main characteristics: they do good for others, they perform their good deeds in the best way possible, and they do so sincerely for the sake of Allah.

Example 1: Prophet Nuh A.S.

Prophet Nuh A.S. demonstrated Ihsan by dedicating his life to calling people towards the truth, despite facing rejection and hardship. For many years, he patiently preached to his people, urging them to turn to Allah. His persistence and sincerity showed his deep commitment to Ihsan, as he continued to guide them even when they refused to listen.

Example 2: Prophet Ibrahim A.S.

Prophet Ibrahim A.S. is another example of Ihsan in action. He was devoted to spreading the message of monotheism and was willing to sacrifice everything for Allah, including his homeland and even his son. His unwavering trust in Allah and his willingness to perform difficult tasks for His sake reflect the highest level of Ihsan.

Hadith Jibril on Ihsan

In the famous Hadith of Jibril, the Angel Jibril (Gabriel) asked the Prophet Muhammad SAW about Ihsan. The Prophet explained that Ihsan means worshiping Allah as if you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, then knowing that He sees you. This hadith emphasizes that Ihsan is about having deep awareness and sincerity in one’s faith and actions.

Example 3: Prophet Yusuf A.S.

Prophet Yusuf A.S. showed Ihsan in many ways throughout his life. Despite being betrayed by his brothers and imprisoned unfairly, he remained patient and continued to do good. When he gained power in Egypt, he forgave his brothers instead of seeking revenge, demonstrating the true spirit of Ihsan—responding to hardship with kindness and mercy.

Ihsan in the Quran and Hadith

Ihsan is often paired with other teachings in Islam. For example, a hadith narrated by Abi Ya’la bin A’us RA states that even in acts like killing (during war) and slaughtering animals, one must do so in the best and most humane way. This shows that Ihsan is not limited to worship but extends to all aspects of life, including how we treat others and animals.

In conclusion, Ihsan is closely related to faith (Iman) and submission (Islam). It plays a significant role in determining a person’s actions in this world and their reward in the afterlife. On the Day of Judgment, every deed will be accounted for, and those who practiced Ihsan will receive great rewards. Ihsan, therefore, is a key quality that strengthens faith and prepares believers for the hereafter.

Week 6: Adab

Assalamualaikum and Hi! For this week, we had discussed about Adab in Islam. Here, I will explain to you a bit of the summary from our session together.

Adab comes from the Arabic word أدب, which means to refine, educate, and discipline. In Islam, Adab refers to good manners, morals, and appropriate behavior based on Islamic teachings. It is not just a personal quality but a continuous learning process. A person can develop Adab by following the guidance of Islam and practicing it in daily life.

The Importance of Learning Adab

Imam Ibnul Qayyim explained that having Adab is a sign of success and happiness, while lacking it leads to loss and hardship. Adab brings goodness in both this world and the hereafter. It reflects a person's character and perfection, showing in their words and actions. Therefore, learning Adab is essential for developing a good personality and strong faith.

Adab vs. Akhlaq

Adab and Akhlaq are closely related but different. Adab refers to the actual practice of good behavior, while Akhlaq is the moral philosophy behind those actions. Adab focuses on what is considered proper or improper behavior, while Akhlaq explains why certain actions are good or bad.

Adab Towards Parents

Islam teaches that children must always speak to their parents with kindness and respect. They should never show frustration or annoyance. Obeying parents is important in all matters except when they ask for something against Islamic teachings. Praying for their well-being and forgiveness is also an essential part of Adab towards parents.

The story of Prophet Ibrahim A.S. in Surah Maryam (41-50) shows the best example of Adab towards parents. Despite his father worshiping idols, Ibrahim A.S. spoke to him gently and respectfully. He explained the truth about Allah and warned his father about the dangers of following Satan. Even when his father became angry and threatened him, Ibrahim A.S. remained calm and prayed for his father’s forgiveness.

When Prophet Ibrahim A.S. left his father and his people for the sake of Allah, he was rewarded with righteous offspring, including Prophets Isaac (Ishaq) and Jacob (Ya’qub). This shows that Allah blesses those who uphold Adab and remain steadfast in their faith.

In conclusion, Adab is an essential part of a Muslim’s character and affects how they interact with others, especially parents. Imam Ali R.A. once said that if people truly understood the importance of Adab, they would ask Allah for more Adab rather than wealth. Practicing good manners leads to success in both this life and the hereafter.

That's all for this week, Bye!

Reflection on My Usrah Journey

Attending Usrah sessions over the past few weeks has been a truly enriching experience. Each session introduced me to new topics that deepened my understanding of Islamic values, self-improvement, and our responsibilities as Muslims. The discussions were insightful, allowing me to reflect on my own practices and strive to implement the lessons learned in my daily life.

One of the most valuable aspects of these sessions was the sense of sisterhood and support from my fellow usrah members. Engaging in meaningful conversations, sharing perspectives, and learning from one another has strengthened my spiritual journey.

I have gained a greater appreciation for the beauty of Islam and the importance of continuous learning. These Usrah sessions reminded me that knowledge is not just about acquiring information but also about applying it in our lives to become better individuals. I am grateful for this opportunity and hope to carry these lessons forward in my personal and spiritual growth.

Suggestion for Improving Usrah Sessions

To make the Usrah sessions more fun and interesting, we can include activities like quizzes or games. For example, we can play a simple Islamic quiz using Kahoot or other apps to test our knowledge in an exciting way. This activity will make the sessions more interactive and help everyone enjoy learning while strengthening our bond with each other.

Overall, that's all from me. I hope my insights and opinions are helpful!

Bye!

Usrah 2 Week 1: Acquisition of Hikmah from Ibadah

Assalamualaikum and Hi! During our first Usrah 2 session for Sem 3, we were discusssing about "Acquisition of Hikmah from Ibadah".

When we do any act of worship, whether it is a "wajib" duty like the five daily prayers or an optional sunnah deed, we first need to fix our niyyah (intention). The Prophet ﷺ taught that “actions are judged by intentions,” so we remind ourselves that every step is for Allah alone. With this mindset, daily salah becomes more than a routine. We pray slowly and calmly, feeling that Allah is watching us. A rushed prayer often mirrors a rushed life, while a peaceful prayer trains the heart to stay steady outside the mosque. Because Allah says that prayer keeps a person away from shameful and evil acts, each sincere rakaʿah becomes a shield that shapes our character throughout the day.

To deepen this change, we add ihsan, which means doing each act as if we see Allah even to everyday tasks like studying, since seeking knowledge is also a form of worship. We do not invent our own methods; instead, we keep checking the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah so our worship stays pure and balanced. In short, wisdom (ḥikmah) grows when our intentions, actions, and knowledge all follow the clear guidance of Allah and His Messenger.

That's all from me, Thanks!

Role-play: Poster

Just like we did in Usrah 1, we were required to do a role-play as our group task, which is via poster. My group, which consists of me, Tasnim, Radin, Farisha, Wawa and Syadia, were doing a poster about sawm or fasting.

This poster explains the meaning and importance of Sawm (fasting) in Islam. Sawm means abstaining from food, drink, smoking, sexual activity, and bad behavior like lying or gossiping from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib). It is one of the five pillars of Islam and is prescribed by Allah to help Muslims become more righteous, as stated in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 183. The poster also lists actions that can break the fast, such as eating or drinking intentionally, vomiting on purpose, engaging in sexual activities during the day, menstruation, or committing apostasy.

The poster also highlights the virtues and benefits of fasting. Spiritually, it teaches self-discipline, patience, gratitude, and strengthens faith and taqwa (God-consciousness). Fasting also brings physical benefits like detoxifying the body and boosting metabolism. It encourages good deeds like reading the Qur’an, giving charity (sadaqah), making du’a, and seeking forgiveness. Fasting helps purify the soul, increases empathy towards the poor, and opens the door to Allah’s forgiveness, especially during the month of Ramadan.

Usrah 2 Week 2: Reasons and Sources of Hikmah from Ibadah

Assalamualaikum wbt everyone, for usrah this week, we discussed a topic entitled, "Reasons and Hikmah from Ibadah"

One of the main reasons we gain hikmah (wisdom) from ibadah (worship) is because it brings us closer to Allah and helps us reflect on our actions. Through worship like prayer, fasting, and remembrance of Allah, we train ourselves to be patient, sincere, and disciplined. These acts remind us of our purpose in life and teach us how to live in a way that pleases Allah. When done with the right intention and consistency, ibadah shapes our character and gives us a better understanding of what is right and wrong.

The sources of hikmah from ibadah come from both the Qur’an and Hadith. For example, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Actions are judged by intentions,” which shows how sincerity in worship leads to deeper meaning and wisdom. The Qur’an also explains how acts like prayer prevent bad behavior and increase taqwa (God-consciousness). Through regular worship, we develop inner peace, gain insight into life’s challenges, and learn how to respond with wisdom, patience, and compassion.

That's all for this week! Tq!

Usrah 2 Week 3: Preparation for Salah

Assalamualaikum wbt, for this week the topic for our usrah entitled "Preparation for Salah".

Before we perform salah, we must prepare ourselves both physically and spiritually. First, we purify ourselves through wudhu' to ensure we are clean, as cleanliness is one of the main conditions for a valid prayer. For those who are traveling, Islam provides ease through solat jamak and qasar, and we are also encouraged to perform sunnah prayers like solat rawatib to help cover any shortcomings in our fardhu prayers. All of this preparation shows how important prayer is in our daily lives and how we must not take it lightly.

To achieve khusyuk (focus and humility) in salah, we must concentrate our hearts and minds, which is why having the right intention is so important. During prayer, we avoid thinking about the world and focus only on Allah. Reciting ta’awwudh (A’udhu billahi...) at the beginning helps us block distractions. We should also remind ourselves of death and the Hereafter, praying as if it is our last prayer. To strengthen this feeling, we should try to understand the meanings of the verses and zikr that we recite. In conclusion, the best preparation for salah is to approach it with a pure body, a sincere heart, and a deep understanding of its purpose and meaning.

That's all for now, Bye!

It is not just a daily routine, but a special moment where we stand in front of our Creator. It becomes a spiritual meeting that reminds us we are never alone, no matter what we face in life.

When we pray with full focus, it helps to cleanse our hearts and reduce stress. It gives us peace and strength to face challenges because we know Allah is always with us.
Usrah 2: Week 5: The virtues found in Sawm (fasting)

Assalamualaikum wbt. This, week we were discussing about " The virtues found in sawm (fasting)"

Fasting (sawm) is not only about staying away from food and drink, but it also helps us to become closer to Allah by training us to be more obedient and have taqwa (God-consciousness). Before we can truly benefit from fasting, we must first have faith (iman), because without faith, fasting will just feel like a burden. One of the greatest blessings of fasting, especially during Ramadan, is that it erases our sins, because the doors of repentance are wide open and Allah promises to forgive those who sincerely turn back to Him.

Fasting also teaches us to be patient, as we control our desires and stay away from bad behavior. When we feel hunger, it reminds us of those who are struggling every day, and this feeling helps us to be more thankful and humble. Through fasting, we also become better Muslims, as it purifies our hearts and helps us change for the better. In conclusion, fasting is a powerful act of worship that builds taqwa, strengthens our character, and brings us closer to Allah while purifying our soul.

That's all from me. wallau'alam ^^

Usrah 2 Week 6: The Virtues of Hajj

Assalamualaikum wbt. for our last usrah session, we discussed about the virtues found in ibadah Hajj.

Hajj is a major act of worship in Islam that is performed in Makkah once a year during the month of Dhul Hijjah. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and is compulsory for Muslims who are able, both physically and financially. Hajj teaches us many lessons—it is a journey of the heart and soul where Muslims from all over the world gather in one place, wearing the same simple clothes. This creates a strong sense of unity and brotherhood, showing that all Muslims are equal in the eyes of Allah. It also trains us to be patient, as the large crowds and physical challenges require us to stay calm and disciplined.

During Hajj, we are reminded of death and the Hereafter, especially at Arafah, which resembles the Day of Judgment when everyone will stand before Allah.

Hajj also wipes away sins for those who perform it sincerely, as many worldly desires must be controlled and certain actions are forbidden. It is a deep act of submission to Allah, where we leave behind comfort to obey His command. Hajj is only accepted if it changes us into better people, and even though it is for those who are capable, we should always strive to be among those who are able to perform it. In conclusion, Hajj is a spiritual journey that strengthens our faith, purifies our soul, and brings us closer to Allah through patience, sacrifice, and sincere devotion.

That's all from me.
My Wish: My Reflection for Usrah 2

This semester’s usrah sessions focused a lot on the topic of ibadah (acts of worship), which really helped me to reflect on my own worship practices. Before this, I didn’t pay much attention to the small details of my ibadah, but through the discussions and reminders in usrah, I started to realise the importance of doing every act sincerely and correctly. It reminded me that ibadah is not just about praying or fasting, but also about our intentions and how we carry ourselves in daily life.

Because of this, I began to evaluate and improve the way I perform my ibadah, especially my salah and my intentions before doing any good deed. I learned that it's not just about doing many acts of worship, but about doing them with sincerity and the right understanding. Usrah has made me want to be more consistent and mindful in my worship so I can become a better Muslim. In conclusion, this semester's usrah helped me become more aware of my relationship with Allah and motivated me to keep improving my ibadah day by day.

thank you and sirru ala barakatillah! See you when i see you ^^
