Are the visual arts important? What (if anything) would be lost if the daily encounters you recorded were absent?

Overall, the visual arts are extremely important to everyday life. If the daily encounters that I recorded were lost, everyday life would be less interesting and more mundane and bleak. The everyday encounters with art that I see are representative of color, light, and unique qualities within my environment. The absence of objects like the flowers I keep or the cowboy boots that I own would take away the personality that is found within my surroundings. If aspects of life that I consider to be art were absent outside of my own space, like within places I visit, I think it would also be difficult to find beauty or interest on a daily basis. Visual arts add to our environments and help to make them more appealing and unique.

How are the types of visual art you encounter daily different from one another? How could we categorize the art you found in your daily life?

The biggest difference in the types of visual arts that I encounter daily is whether or not the art is natural or man-made. I have always considered nature to be art, so I naturally gravitated to wanting to take pictures of flowers, sunsets, and the effect of natural lighting on objects. I enjoy art that reflects nature or is nature itself because I find it really interesting that such beautiful scenes (like the vase of flowers) can exist naturally. I also enjoy when the two categories combine to boost something that I consider to be art's strength, such as the effect that the golden hour lighting has on the UT Tower. The Tower itself is already incredible but the natural lighting adds an impressive effect that makes it even more appealing to the eye.
