Literacies by https://padlet.com/ontarioliteracyprofessors/literacies This padlet is led by Ontario Literacy Professors, a group of literacy education researchers and teacher educators working in initial teacher education and graduate programs in faculties of education across Ontario. As a group, we have many decades of experience conducting research and teaching in elementary and secondary classrooms, all directed towards promoting equity in and through literacy education. Together, we responded to the Terms of Reference and information-gathering procedures of the Right to Read Inquiry. In so doing, we recognized the need for increased conversation and contextualization of reading-related research and resources. This padlet is one of our strategies for achieving these ends and is directed towards dialogue with all stakeholders (e.g., teachers, researchers, early childhood educators, policy-makers, families, and young people). Specifically, the padlet contains links to knowledge-generating resources such as articles and videos on a variety of pertinent literacies topics. Most resources are open source. In the case where a resource is not open source, we have included it given its importance to the topic and to alert readers to its existence. Column one is dedicated to reading. Materials here variously address the nature of reading, the relationship between reading and other literacy practices, the assessment of reading, and reading pedagogies. As Amanda Goodwin and Robert Jiménez of Vanderbilt University, the RRQ editors, explain in their executive summary, “the goal of this issue is to highlight how bridging of perspectives via accurate and meaningful information can move us forward.” They go on to observe that “we [know] much more than was coming out in the discussions taking place. This online journal features classroom-based research and honours the perspectives of teacher-researchers.
