It's one study. But it's very interesting that the student leaders had a different list than the non-student leaders. How do we explain this interesting finding?

These are most of the leadership qualities we looked at last week. Here they are ranked for the top 10, from Honesty to Wise. Honesty, Confidence, and Respecting Others were the top 3 (which you had identified in the top 3 yourselves.)

This study asked a general student population to rate the qualities of leadership. This list correlates fairly well with generally accepted leadership qualities of working professionals.

You need to answer each question and you need to write a paragraph or two for each. (A paragraph is 5-6 sentences.) Spell check!

How do you explain the differences in the two lists? Honesty and Integrity are similar. Self confidence is on both. But there are several on the student-leaders list not on the general list.

From either list, identify and discuss three qualities you believe you possess already. How do these qualities manifest in your schoolwork, family life, or activities? Were you born with them or did you develop them? You must discuss each and give a concrete, specific detail.

Now identify one quality that you believe you're lacking, or is underdeveloped in you, but that you would like to develop. What is one concrete action or goal (one that you can begin to practice immediately if you choose) to begin working on developing or utilizing more this quality.

Transactional leaders focus on the role of supervision, organization, and group performance. They promote compliance by followers through both rewards and punishments. This style is often contrasted with transformational leadership, as it is more concerned with maintaining the normal flow of operations rather than initiating change.

This approach emphasizes flexibility and the need for leaders to be able to assess and respond to changing circumstances effectively.

In summary, the literature informs us that mindfulness practice enhances leaders’ capacity for being intentionally present to whatever is occurring in the moment, and with the healthier attitudes of non-reactivity and non-judgment.

Our proposed framework consists of three main qualities of the mindful leader: attention, awareness, and authenticity.
