I think it's a wake-up call that this unexpected downtime can happen but care doesn't stop because of that... because people will get sick no matter what.

I think it reminds us of how we used to take are of patients....with minimal technology but just a good pair of ears, eyes, stethoscope 🩺 and our 🧠

Paper vs Paperless

I am typically anti printing things and keeping hard copies available in clinical areas. This changed my thoughts and threshold to print out hard copies of policies, protocols, and instructions for key clinical devices or actions.

Anxious controlled chaos

We were a great team- saw this on multiple units. It was anxiety-inducing certainly as many things were out of our comfort- many staff had never documented on paper and so the learning curve on top of an already busy work environment was difficult. But it was a good test of our system and what we need to do to prepare for the next unplanned downtime. We’ve already learned many lessons!

Nursing still figured it out

Nursing took such a front row seat in helping to organize care during this crisis. Providers were frozen without tech and nursing just did the work and figured it out. Nursing is so great at triaging care and figuring out what is needed. I was so proud to be a nurse during this time.
