Europe went into africa to establish trade relations.When the Europeans first got to africa all they wanted to do was set up tradeing partners . they started out on the coast when they first got there and started paying for the goods that they wanted.

1500s Slave Trade Started

Europeans saw that africa was a way to get cheap labor and started sending off slaves to America.Soon they began conquering groups and taking slaves. This lasted for

about 400 years.

1750 Industrial Revlution

The industrial revolution is one of the main reasons that the slave trade ended. Since the machines and tools could do work faster and more efficient than the slaves it cost less. there was an incread demand for mineral resources. An a need to expand agricultural production.

1800s Europeans start to colonize countries

European interest in Africa changed from slaves to natural resources. Each country wanted apart of Africa so they can have sole possession of the natural resources . They used three methods for colonizing warfare ,threat of force, and treaty making with African rulers to gain political control of African colonies.

The is conference was held to divide up Africa fairly so the countries that wanted afria wouldn't go to war. The majior players of the conference were Portugal , Germany ,Great Britain, France, Belgium , Spain , and Itlay. when they met in the berlin conference they didn't consider Africa ethnic groups in the process.

they started to fight for there independence.Diffrent countries gained there indepence in different ways some were peaceful while others were after long years years of fighting.After etting their independence some counties were ok while the others went into complete chaos.

Hutu and Tutsis are etnhic groups in the county of Rwanda. After independence The Tutsis were granted more power because they had lighter skin .The Hutu objected to this and began a genocide against the Tutsi people. About 800,000 people died from this war

When South Africa became independent and apartheid began to come apart , they held there first multiracial election and elected Nelson Mandela as the countrys first black President.While he was in office his main foucs wad on stoping rasicm . One thing that he said that became famous is " Nationalism in South Africa did not achieve independence from an imperial power, but rather achieved equal rights for black and 'colored' people ". This an important quote because he was describing the freedom that black got and deserved.
