         <description><![CDATA[<div>The events of 1864, when Sherman and his army captured Atlanta then burned it was a huge turning point in the war. Beginning in November and going on for two months, Sherman's march crippled Georgia's railroad and infrastructure. Savannah which was suffering from the ports being blocked by Union ships was next. Sherman destroyed the few supplies and food Savannah had. </div>]]></description>

Fort Pulaski was then in Georgia's hands when the Governor of Georgia, Joseph E. Brown ordered the fort to belong to Georgia. 110 men traveled downward the river along Savannah to reach the fort. Following this event the state had join the Confederacy. the troops then moved in for a possible attack on fort Pulaski. </div>]]></description>
