Hello everyone, my name is Janathia Crane. This is my second masters degree but it has been a while since I have been in school. I am currently an elementary librarian and I truly enjoy it. I am in the Masters of Education in School Counseling program with the LPC Bridge and my future career goals are to become either a middle school or high school counselor and later open my own counseling office in my area.

I am married and we share two children. Our son is 22 and our daughter is 14. My husband is an administrator at the high school level and our children keep us busy with dance, color guard, volleyball, and musical/writing endeavors. In my spare time I love to spend time with family/friends, read, listen to music, watch Hallmark movies, and spend time studying my bible.

Professional Organizations:

American Counseling Association

Research to me is a form of exploration that allows us to learn and grow through the knowledge that we gain. Whether we are investigating a subject, trying to solve a problem, or getting a better understanding of something, it is all a part of research no matter how big or small the topic is. As we have advanced with technology information is literally at our finger tips so it is important to make sure that the information is factual.

In school counseling, research is a process used to gather and analyze data to better understand student behaviors, learning challenges, mental health needs, and social issues. This research helps school counselors develop effective support strategies, improve counseling programs, and make data-driven decisions that positively impact student well-being and academic success.

Lapan (2012) found that counseling programs grounded in research are better equipped to address student issues comprehensively and are more likely to secure administrative and stakeholder support. These studies reinforce that research empowers school counselors to design and implement evidence-based interventions that contribute to students' growth.

Lapan, R. T. (2012).
How Research Is Used in School Counseling

Professionals in school counseling use research to clarify their practices, advocate for their students, and elevate the profession by making data-driven, evidence-based decisions that align with best practices. Research enables school counselors to evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions, tailor programs to meet student needs, and demonstrate their impact to stakeholders, which enhances the credibility and support for the counseling profession. As Dimmitt and Wilkerson (2012) highlight, research enables counselors to advocate for the role of school counseling as a crucial part of the educational system, ensuring the profession's growth and recognition.

Dimmitt, C., & Wilkerson, B.
