Marlin lives a normal life in the ocean with his son Nemo. He takes him to school everyday where Nemo gets to spend time with his friends and go on trips.

Marlin is afraid to go after Nemo because he is afraid of the open sea and does not know how he will navigate by himself.

Meeting the Mentor

Marlin finds his mentor, Dory, who is good at cracking jokes and using humor to overcome difficulties in her life. Through Dory, Marlin learns how to not let fear control his life. He learns that he must look for Nemo and also have faith that Nemo can help himself in some ways.

Crossing the Threshold

Marlin decides to leave the area where he is safe and swim after the boat that took Nemo even though he is scared of the open ocean.

Trials: When the whale swallows Dory and Marlin and they have to trust that everything is going to be alright.

Approach to the Inmost Cave

Marlin almost gives up on his entire journey whenever he believes that Nemo is dead. He tells Dory goodbye and swims away but Dory sees that Nemo is still living and helps to reunite Merlin and Nemo.

The Supreme Ordeal

Marlin and Dory are forced to swim through tons of jellyfish as a part of their journey. They are both badly injured and almost faced with the horrible fate of death.

Reward

Nemo makes his way out into the open ocean after surviving his near death experience with the dreaded Darla. Dory finds him and Nemo begins to cry which calls Marlin to him leading to their reunion.

The Road Back

On their road back Marlin is put to the test whenever Dory gets caught in a large fishing net and Nemo wants to attempt saving her. Marlin does not want to let Nemo go considering he just got him back. He has trust in Nemo who uses a method his friend Gil taught him while caught in the fish tank.

The Ressurection

Marlin again believes that Nemo is dead because he did not trust Nemo but he was not actually dead and it was a test. This was a lesson to Marlin to let go and trust things for what they are.

Return with the Prize

Marlin makes it home with Nemo returning back to their normal lives. He lets Nemo go to school without fear which makes Marlin happier in return. He uses the lessons that he learned on his journey and uses them in his everyday life.
