Dietrich was a German theologian who opposed Nazi regime. He was executed in 1945 for pronouncing these beliefs. He was most well known for his verbal opposition to Hitler's beliefs on euthanasia and the genocidal persecution of Jews. He was arrested in April 1943 by the Gestapo and imprisoned at Tegel prison for one and a half years. Later he was transferred to a Nazi concentration camp. After being accused of being associated with the plot to assassinate Hitler, he was quickly tried, along with other accused plotters, and then executed by hanging on April 9th , 1945 as the Nazi regime was collapsing.

In shortest terms... to save themselves. Hitler started a policy of "synchronization" forcing organizations, political parties, and state governments into lines with Nazi goals and placing them under Nazi leadership. Everything began to go under Nazi control. Culture, the economy, education and law... all of these things went under Nazi control. Freedom wasn't an option. By mid-July 1933, the Nazi party was the only political party permitted in Germany. The Fuehrer's will became the foundation for government policy.

Hitler Youth was a huge part of compliance to Hitler. They were basically his "young army" of followers. A picture of them is below.

In the ghetto, more than 500,000 Polish Jews became sick because of the lack of food and the horrible living conditions. In response to this, people were sent in to give them vaccines so that the sickness would not spread outside of the ghetto. Many men and women that were giving the vaccines saw how badly the Nazis treated the Jews. Because of this they started sneaking in food and medicine which was a dangerous task because it was going against Hitler. But this didn´t stop these brave people. They started to sneak Jews out in their trucks to get them to safe places.

On July 20th, 1944 an assassination attempt was made on Hitler. It was put in a briefcase but it failed to kill Hitler. Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, chief of the army reserve, was the one who was supposed to plant the bomb. The briefcase with the bomb was originally moved from where it had been planted. Hitler was injured so he had temporary paralysis in one arm but he was still very much alive.

Irena Sendler- The Unknown Hero

Irena Sendler was young woman who rescued more thna 2,500 polish jewish children. She went into the ghettos originaly to give the jews vaccines for their sickness. They were told to do this so that they wouldn´t spread their sicknees outside of the ghetto. Once Irena saw how the Jews were treated, she knew she had to do something. She decided to give the children a chance at life and smuggle them out of the ghetto and into safety. She had many ways of doing this. She put babies in the back of the trucks leaving the ghetto. If the baby were to cry, they had a dog in the car to bark so that it would drown out the crying. Another way she would sneak the babies out was by putting them in carpenters toolboxes to cary out as if they were tools. In addition to that she would guide jewish children through the sewer tunnels to safety. Other times she told older children to act as a Catholic child and remember the lord´s prayer to escape with her. Not long after, she joined the Zegota group, a group to rescue and aid Jews, and continued sneaking outt Jewish children. She then found people to foster these children. Some children went to orphanages and other went to covanents. Irena kept records of the childrne and their parents so that would hopefully reunite them when they were free. She kept the records safe and even went to prison for not giving up information on Zegota. She made it out alive and ended up saving huge amounts of children.

They went as far as digging a tunnel from their house to the forest that was hundreds of yards away. This tunnel was easily hidden under the false bottom of a coal bin in their garden. They not only put themsleves in danger by hiding these Jews, but also put thier four children in danger.
