Lipsitz' reading mentions minority neighborhoods being more susceptible to being near prisons and waste dumps. How do you think this affects not only residents' mental health, but also physical health? How does this tie into environmental racism (disproportionally placed hazardous material in communities of colour)?

What messages have you received through your K-12 education (or life experience in general) about what it means to be fully autonomous? How do those tie back to possession on land and other valuables? If you come from a low-income background, how might those who have not been able to "become fully autonomous" see you if you were to gain this autonomy?

Anti-homeless architecture prevents people from seeking shelter. Negative attitudes toward people seen on/around campus. Homelessness equated to being dangerous.

I find this to be quite surprising in some aspects and they are fighting against their own community but also not as some morals line up. People who support MAGA are conservative and many people within the Black and Brown community also have conservative views. There is a connection on wanting to continue living life in “old ways” and live life through the practices of religion.

The Lipsitz comment is very interesting actually because I think most whites see this problem as being reversed. I think they see it as though these communites are the ones that are making the space around them bad. They dont understand that these places are left for minorities, and minorities are not the ones to create them.

White people of power strategically placing prisons and dumps in and around neighborhoods that have mainly minority residents is an example of environmental racism itself. This is obviously hard on the residents’ mental and physical health. Environmental racism like this occurs because white people who hold power want to put the less “attractive” facilities in the “less attractive” areas to keep the more well-funded areas looking “clean” and “safe.” But this contributes to a continually worsening cycle
