If it looks like Step 4 has not been completed even if data has been entered and saved it is generally because an instructional level has not been reached.

The Short Answer: This step will need to be completed and an instructional level found for each student in order for the Level to populate in the reports. This can be seen at the bottom of the page for Step 4.

The Long Answer: When administering the Step 4 Reading Assessment Conference, you may have completed a full assessment before discovering that the text level was “frustrational” or “independent.” The goal of the assessment is to find the instructional reading level. Therefore, until the level is “Instructional”, it will not record in the reports. If the student is at “frustrational” or “independent” reading level, the teacher will need to retest accordingly supporting the student with either a higher or lower text in order to establish the ‘Instructional reading level’. You may wish to save the other reading records for reference. You can save this data as “optional” so that it will be stored in your student’s portfolio, but not in your class report.

Why am I seeing students in my class that have been moved to another class?

When a student is removed from a class in the Scholastic Digital Manager(SDM), teachers and administrators generally expect that the students will be removed from the class in the program as well. At this time, NSGRA does not remove a student from a class when the student has been removed from the class in SDM. This is reported by teachers and administrators in one of two ways.

1. Teachers will report that they still see the students in the class that should have been removed. Teachers can see this anywhere in NSGRA that rosters are shown. However, teachers have generally reported this in the class roster list in the NSGRA Home tab or in the Assessment tab when adding assessment data for each student.

2. Administrators generally are looking at the NSGRA Home tab to view the school and all classes and are viewing the "Step 4 completion Rate" report. When the admin drills down to see what classes have completed the NSGRA assessment, they discover that students that have left the class are still in NSGRA.

The reasoning behind the student staying in the original class is to ensure that no data is lost in the transfer.

NSGRA predates the other resources in Scholastic Literacy, so some of the later enhancements in the reports that were added to Literacy Pro, WORD or FIRST are not part of the programing in NSGRA. Literacy Pro, WORD and FIRST reporting/ease of sharing is more recent.
