Today I learned something new in media. It was how to use adobe premier software, since that is the main editing device that we are going to use for filming. My partner was given this mega hard drive, which I am gonna get sometime soon. You basically need that to export the movie onto that software, and to also keep all of my work on there.

After that, we went into a folder and took some bike racing clips as a practice to get us used to the software. Ian then explained some steps of adding them in and then editing them, which sounded pretty complicated that I cannot really remember them (Sorry!)

Today, we were set a task in media, which was to create a perfume/cologne product and describe what it would do, along with adding in the target audience and why they would benefit from it.

The activity was called "smelly liquid" in which we used to create our cologne product off. On the sheet, the instructions were to design a perfume/cologne product, add information about your product and who to recommend it to, and finally create an audience profile, based on who I wanted to sell my cologne too. After I read the instructions, it was time to get started.

Firstly, we decided on what our target audience was going to be, and we eventually settled on the city lad. Secondly, we created a profile for the city lad, with adding psychological elements. We believed that the city lad would suit our cologne the best because our cologne was based on sophisticated men aged from their 20s-30s who inspire to do well in life and enjoys the top brands, like expensive clothes and whatnot.

Thirdly, I went on the internet to get some pictures of cologne bottles, and soon we eventually found one that we thought was suitable design, and would appeal to our target audience, and we eventually based our bottle on that. The bottle is black, and its square shaped, so that it resembles a city building. It also has a chrome lid, with our logo on the front. We have done this to entice the target audience to the bottle, as it's a stylish shape and expensive. Our cologne is called "Complete" because we designed our bottle to make sure that the city lad has everything complete.

This is our board. It shows all about our cologne, like the company name, the bottle design, recommendations and more. Overall, it's the main part of presenting our cologne.

3. Milky Way Car Advert
The final advert I have chosen is a classic one, the old Milky Way car advert from the 80s. It shows a red car and a blue car having a race. The red car is shown to devour anything in his path, from trucks to prickly trees, while the blue car takes the milky way. It then proceeds to show the milky way sweet being created in animation, and then the blue car proceeds to eat it, and then re-joins the red car on his race. Then, it shows the finish line, except the bridge is out. The blue car manages to cross without ease, but the red car is full, and cannot carry on, so he falls to the ground. It ends with the blue car racing off into dinnertown while a milky way neon billboard is shown.

I can see from the ad that this was again, aimed at those who like eating milky way bars, and also primarily at children, since it features a car race with a catchy song. I think that it could also remind people to be smart, as it shows the blue car eating the milky way, which in songs says that I won't spoil his appetite, while the red car just eats anything in his way and gets fatter and fatter.

I think this advert worked because it can appeal to children, and makes you want to get it because of the song, which explains to do the smart thing and get the milky way bar, which wont spoil your appetite, this is reminded by the billboard shown at the end.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4drNFXd6dw

2. Dragon Ball Z KFC advert
The second advert I have chosen is a Dragon Ball KFC advert that was broadcasted in Japan. It starts with Goku and the Z Fighters (other main characters) running towards the screen. Then, Goku can be seen holding a chicken wing up close while he explains something in Japanese. It then cuts to the toys that you can get while getting a KFC meal. Once again, it cuts to Goku as a Super Saiyan, doing his Kamehameha attack. After that, it ends with the KFC logo and the slogan "So good".

I can see from the ad that this was obviously aimed at those who enjoy eating, especially at KFC. It could most certinately be aimed at those who love DBZ as well, since it is very popular over in Japan. The way that it was presented added to it as well, since Goku is seen explaining the KFC chicken, and then the toys can be seen, which shows that KFC is presenting their product through popular culture.

I feel that the advert worked because it has elements of presentation to popular culture. DBZ is very popular over in Japan so having it featured to promote KFC food surely could of made it click with the audience and make them want to get them, which is further added by the toys that come with the KFC as shown in the ad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hErjhQ0yrZI

Advertising Analysis

Today, I will be looking at three adverts and analysing the specificities of them, such as the camera shots, purpose and who they are aimed at/target audience

⦁	Batman Diet Coke advert

The first advert I have chosen is a Diet Coke commercial from Batman Returns. I can see in the advert that Batman is about to get himself a diet coke when the Gotham city power supply begins to fail. He then drives around in his batmobile desperately trying to find a vending machine as the blackout approaches. He then manages to find one, but the power goes out as he walks over. Soon, he sees Catwoman, who throws him a diet coke. Batman manages to catch it with his grapple gun, and the scene ends.

From what I can see in the ad, it was obviously aimed at those who like cold beverages and those who are Batman fans. I also feel that the way it was paved out could have lured the viewer into getting the drink, as shown by Batman trying to find a vending machine to get himself some coke, with danger behind him in the form of a blackout.

I liked the camera shots that were used in the advert as well. At the start there was an establishing shot fixed on the road that the batmobile was on. Soon, there was multiple close up shots fixed on Batman’s face as it showed his desperation and frustration to get himself a diet coke. There was also a wide/birds eye shot shown which had the batmobile streak through the streets of Gotham as it was engulfed in complete darkness. I think that shot was used nicely. Oh, and I liked the ending part, where Catwoman throws a coke can to Batman, who then catches it with his grapple gun. It ended with a close up of the can being caught by the grapple gun while the slogan came up. I think that was a nice way to go out.

The overall effect is that this advert worked. I think this because it might be old, but the advert really stands out as getting you interested through the product, such as taking a popular character/superhero, then adding some action elements that take you in and makes you think of buying a coke. That makes the advert work great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPU6rQ-PBao

In case you are wondering, we are doing an advert on a new pair of shoes that are meant to be great, and it includes why we recommend that they should be bought by everyone. That pretty much sums up our advert.

We started off by going down to the flat, which is in the PLW area of the college. When we got there, we then proceeded to get started on camerawork. I was acting in all of this, so I had to take my shoes off and they had to get close-ups of my legs as I walked and then putting my shoes back on. After that was all done, we went back up to the Media section and my teammates proceeded to import the clips onto the computer. That was all done, and we finished up for the day shortly afterwards.

I was really exhausted and worn out after today, time for a well earned break....

He did more acting this time by opening up a box of new shoes, putting them on and then starting to wear a jacket while leaving the house, which is how our advertisement is going at the minute. I gave some good ideas, but my teammates were mostly doing all of the filming, because its hard to be in a 3-man group, especially with having to deal with the filming, editing and discussions.

Its quite hard and confusing. I think that we could start editing soon, and maybe do some more filming tomorrow, since all of this has to be finished by Friday, so we have time....

I have been making an advertisement in a group of three. This has been going on for about 2 weeks and there was been a lot of hard work and dedication to doing it. I finish all of this today and here is all of the preparation combined.

Firstly, we started off by creating a spider diagram, and then a storyboard on our advert, which was on trainers at first, but we eventually scrapped the storyboard and then did another one because we then changed our advert idea to the whole Adidas brand altogether. We then reallocated each other roles in the ad, and we switched them a few times. I was acting in the advert, and I also got to be a cameraman as I filmed some scenes.

Secondly, we went down to the PLW area to start filming. I was the one who started acting in all of this, so my teammates were filming me as I got out of bed, walked across the place and putting on my shoes and tying my shoelaces up. Through all of this, they were getting extreme close ups of my legs and feet as I did my acting. After all of this was done, we went back up to the media department, looked at all of the clips and my teammates decided that it needed to be changed somewhat, as we had already changed the idea by this point. So, we eventually went back down to the flat and GT was the one acting in the scenes now. There was also some new footage included, such as putting on a jacket and going outside the door as well. All the new footage was included in the final piece. I then wrote up the days events on padlet as it unfolded

We decided to use the flat as the first place to film because the inside looks pretty much like a typical home, with a bed, sofa, dining table, kitchen and a coat rack, which all proved to have a use when we were filming. It was also a great setting for the start of our advert, so we settled on that.

Thirdly, we then proceeded to finish off all the filming on Tuesday. The day started off with my group negotiating for a little while, then we all went off college grounds to do some more filming. I went with my group to the front of someone’s house to film at the front of it, which in the ad shows GT as he walks away from the house, wearing an Adidas tracksuit and headphones in hand. Another scene was also filmed here, where GT puts on the headphones, in which the final piece shows that when the headphones were inserted, it made the music louder and completely changed the setting, making it look different as soon as you put them on. After filming there, we then proceeded to enter the large field that is located near the college. Down there, we were doing most of the filming, including usage of the tree for GT to run across it, and then for a close up of the Adidas tracksuit which closed out the advertisement. Throughout all of this, I was taking turns with Tommy with being the cameraman and was doing some of the filming.

This was a great place to finish off all the filming because the neighborhood provided us with some decent spots, such as a wall to do another close up of the shoes and the house front yard. Also, the field is a huge, desolate place and some of the ground was great to film, including the giant tree and the grassy setting, which provided useful for some of our scenes.

When that was all done, the filming was completed! I did not do any of the editing, as GT and Tommy did all of that. On Friday, the time had come to present it to my entire class. I watched the advert we had made as we presented it, and I thought that they did a great job in editing it. The scenes and camera shots worked perfectly, as did the scene in which GT puts on the headphones, and the music then comes in, along with the color.

The feedback was good as well. GT and Tommy handed out questionnaires to the rest of my class, and most of it came back positive. About 3% of them were ideas to improve our advert, while the rest of them were positive and telling us what they liked the best about our ad.

Overall, I really enjoyed filming this advert and I had loads of fun working on all of this, such as filming, planning and editing so that our ad would come to life. That pretty much explains it, but I am happy with how it turned out and I hope that I can have more fun on different projects in the future.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAqSfnYIrJ8

I have been working on something new recently, and that is recreating a scene from a popular movie. I have been working with 4 other people throughout all of this and it has been great.

I have picked the opening sequence from Saturday Night Fever as the scene that we are creating. Also, I was the actor in this, so that was a really important role. The rest of my group were doing camerawork and editing. A lot of things happened on the day that all of this happened. Before that, we planned all of this out, including one of my teammates writing down the camera shots and the scenes that we were doing. I wrote down some stuff in my notebook as well.

The next day, we started the filming. Firstly, we went down to the train station to get a shot of the train moving across the bridge, which was also present in the opening sequence. After that was done, we then moved to the short set of shops that are located near Loughton. We did most of our filming there, and that was a good point. The scenes we did there was me walking down the street and then going into the chicken shop to ask for some food, and then walking out eating it. I feel that it all went well and that I did a great job.

After that, all the filming was completed. Me and my group then returned to the college, and the rest of them got to work shortly on the editing. I spent the rest of the day asleep because I was tired and exhausted from acting and walking so far. It went well though, and I hope our film comes out great.

Eventually, it did. I feel that it went well and it all clicked, especially when I was walking down the street with the tune playing in the background, and then going into the chicken shop, which matched with the pizza shop in the original very well. It was good and it showed my acting skills in doing a film scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DGftW876qc

Different film genres

I will be analysing 3 clips of film scenes that have completely different genres, and I will be describing the effect it has on the audience, along with what do expect in the movie and if it appeals or not.

The Joker “I just want my phone call” scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7e6JJWXRFGA)
Guardians of the Galaxy “dance off” scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8ohTJp3PAA)
Back to the Future “Johnny B. Goode” scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1i5coU-0_Q)

Those are the scenes that I have chosen to analyse and make notes on. I am also using these as influences to create my own short film scene.

The first scene I have chosen is the Joker “phone call” scene from the movie “The Dark Knight”, which was part of the Batman film trilogy. It includes hard-hitting action combined with horror and fear.

The scene, which I assume could be taking place midway through the film, shows the Joker being interrogated by someone who could be the police captain, and throughout Joker keeps mentioning that he wants his phone call, and then brings up how many of his friends that he has killed. Meanwhile, it cuts to a man in a prison cell, which is shaking uncontrollably, and then he collapses to the ground. As it goes back and forth, the policeman starts to go over to Joker to beat information out of him, and it then cuts to Batman racing forward on his batbike. Joker is then shown holding the captain at knifepoint and keeps mentioning that he just wants his phone call. It then cuts back to the men who are examining the prisoners’ corpse, and they then see a phone in his body. As one officer comments on it, the entire building blows up and is engulfed in flames.

I think that because of this scene, the audience for the dark knight is mostly for teenagers and adult men/woman because the Jokers appearance and personality is bound to creep out younger audiences, along with his murderous tendencies. I feel that it appeals to the audience significantly because it shows how brutal the Joker truly is, along with the aftermath shown caused by his antics, which is sure to leave a mark in peoples lives. Oh, and everything else applies too, such as the tense, climatic music combined with the shot reverse shot process, which shows the audience what is happening elsewhere as one thing happens at the same time.

The second scene I have chose is the “dance off” scene from the movie Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a really popular film of many. It combines action, adventure and comedy into a hybrid genre and it provides many great moments.

The scene that I have chosen is during a major point in the film when a huge battle reaches its climax. It starts with the ending point between Ronan and the Guardians. As he prepares to finish them off, Starlord is then shown dancing to O-o-h child by Five Stairsteps. As Ronan is confused, Starlord then says, “Dance off bro! You and me!” It is then shown to be a distraction, and Drax then destroys his hammer and Starlord then grabs the crystal. The Guardians then unite together to destroy Ronan, with Starlord proclaiming “We are the Guardians of the Galaxy, bitch”.

I feel that this scene is significant in many ways, because it appeals mostly to teenagers and adults, including those who have read the comics. This scene itself contains pure action and comedy combined, along with the climax to a major battle shown and the effects used are amazing, so it is sure to lure viewers in after watching the battle in full and they will be blown away after finishing the film.

The third and final scene that I have chosen is the dance prom scene from Back to the Future, where Marty Mcfly is doing guitar base as a substitute, while Marvin Berry and the Starlighters sing Earth Angel. Soon afterwards, he decides to show the audience a song from his time and proceeds to rock out playing Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry. After that, the audience is not sure how to react.

I feel that this scene is pretty funny and comedic, and also really effective in some parts. I like how the camera is focused on Marty throughout as he sings while playing the guitar, and some camera shots showing the audience dancing to the music. It really captures the enjoyment of many, including Marty as the camera focuses on him more as the scene progresses

I am going to be creating a 2-3 minute long film scene and there will be many elements used. This is going to be probably one of the hardest tasks I have ever been given, so I will try my best.

My film scene is called Mythical Crusade of Nightmares, and it is about a serial killer basing himself off the Chupacabra of urban legend, who has a way of leaving his mark by brutally hacking his victims to death with a machete so they are unrecognizable. After he claims another of his victims one night, a special ops detective called Johnathan plans to use special measures to bring an end to his reign of terror.

The genre for my film is action/adventure, mixed in with creepy/horror elements. I feel that this is the best for my scene, as it shows the suspense and the climatic battle. The story for my scene is as follows

A young man known as Ryan, is relaxing in his home, until he gets a mysterious phone call from an unknown person. As he answers the phone, the unknown entity starts off by saying some creepy details about how he is watching him, knows everything that he does, while making some weird sounds, which creeps out the man greatly. It goes on, until he ends it with “I am here for you. Look out your door”. He is then seen staring right through the door window, wearing a gas mask and a long trenchcoat. Somehow, he manages to break down the door, and wields a large machete. The man is shocked, and then proceeds to fight for his life as the killer starts slashing the machete around, trying to kill him with it. It is then taken from his home to a giant field patch with the surrounding forest, as the man has now taken a gun by this point and is shooting at the killer, who has a gun of his own by this point. Soon afterwards, his bullets run out, and it then turns into a sword fight. It ends shortly afterwards though, when the man is wounded. It then cuts to black shortly afterwards.

I have the locations in hand for all of this. The start will be taking place in the flat (PLW area) then as the scene progresses, it will go to the forest patch around the car park, then it will end in the large field down the bottom of college. I have taken pictures of some of the locations to provide ideas of what will happen there.

I have been doing a truckload of progress on my film scene in the past weeks, mostly since I came back from half term. Currently, I think that this could actually go somewhere and that this could turn out to be one of the best things I have done in media.

I have done major planning for my film scene, which can be seen below. Yesterday, I proceeded to start with some test shots and filming for my scene, which I feel has played off pretty good, since I have gotten some friends of mine to help out with the roles and acting in my scenes, and I have even done some P.O.V shots and video clips which I might use in my scene in the future. That was probably the best thing that I did yesterday, as it gave me a better sign and preparation for the actual thing to start off. I have made powerpoint and word documents on my film and it contains plenty of planning and information.

Recently, I have finished off the planning and the script, in which I have created 2 ways for the ending, and I have went with the second one, since that is more shocking to everyone. I am now proceeding to explain about the camera shots role in the script, and where they fit it and their role and purpose. Hopefully, it will turn out to be great when I have finished my film scene :)

Warm Bodies is a film made in 2013 that depicts a romantic relationship between a zombie and a human. The film itself is significant in many ways.
Firstly, the film is in the hybrid genre, which is a mix between 2 different genres and offering a view of both. This helps films because it can bring different audiences together and mixing them together can gain more interesting stories. In the case of Warm Bodies, the genre is zombie + romance with horrors' elements.

Differences between zombie and romance films

Zombies
⦁ Grey shadows/shades
⦁ Surrounding of reality
⦁ Showing different types
⦁ Has survivalists/multiple protagonists
⦁ Tense, creepy music
⦁ Fighting, blood and gore
⦁ Explanation of genre
⦁ Heroes in the group

These mostly apply to zombie films. Typical locations can be an abandoned city, empty backlot or a desolate town, which has shown signs of panic, terror and chaos as the world ended. As mentioned above, characters can be the survivalists, which are maybe 1 or in a large group, and many different ones can be the protagonist as well.

Romance
⦁ Music (popular, romantic, upbeat genres)
⦁ Sharing their thoughts
⦁ Sharing a journey
⦁ Memories
⦁ Attracting young people
⦁ Love at first night
⦁ Loneliness

All of these apply to romance films. Typical locations can be in a large city, but the most common case is the streets, the main characters apartment and a restaurant, as they could be settings for the couple to have a few romantic scenes together. The main characters are usually a couple of a man (boyfriend) and a woman (girlfriend), who are in their early 20s-30s in most romance films.

Warm Bodies mixes both of these together to create the hybrid effect. One common one are combining the surrounding of reality and loneliness, as shown in the movie when R the zombie is saying his monologue at the beginning. He says some very significant points throughout, because he explains that he is lonely, and that he is frustrated as to why he can't connect with people, even though he is dead. This strengthens the point that some zombies still retain emotions. As soon as R meets Julie for the first time however, this brings in the "love at first sight" element, which can be shown as R stares at her and it then zooms in to see his heart beating, a sign of love. Throughout the film, R begins to become human again as they spend more and more time together, and by the end, he is human once again.

Those explain why Warm Bodies brings zombie horror and romance together to create a significant hybrid genre, and makes the film stand out as being very unique in horror films

Some more stuff happening on my film scene, on monday I managed to get some filming done, but that was pretty much it. Tuesday was unfortunate, since I was not able to get any filming down because all of the cameras were taken and then the fire alarm went off. Since today is Friday, I will be getting some of the filming down, then I will finish it off for a day next week. Kind of had some much stress happening today so I am a little agitated, but regardless I am getting a lot done.

Monday: I have managed to get the storyboard out of the way, and that was a significant part in development. Tomorrow, I will hopefully get the rest of the filming out of the way, and by Friday, there will probably be the last bits of filming and mostly editing :)

Tuesday: Alright, today was significant. I have finally gotten all of the filming out of the way, and it happened in an hour. I was concentrating very good throughout this, and that proceeded to get everything done. I went with the ending to be left on a cliffhanger, where Bloodbeast is behind Ryan and is about to kill him. That is where it stops. There were some issues, such as blurriness in the camera and noises, but we eventually overcame all of them. I feel that I did very well in finishing off the remainder of the filming.

Well, today was something. It was primarily on editing and all that, but there were some many issues that occurred to me in the morning when I continued with doing all of it.

It happened when I had to set up premiere and link all the clips together. For whatever reason, it was saying that it was only recorded with 1 network then it was actually 2. I had no idea what that meant, so after many tries I gave up and continued, and most of the clips were gone, to be replaced by errors. I was really unhappy, and had to go outside for a while. Eventually, the teachers figured out the issue, and I eventually found all the clips, reimported them and added them to my hard drive.

After that ordeal, I continued with editing without any issues, and it has turned out great. I managed to fit all the audio in, and it looks pretty neat. I next need to get some effects in before I finish it off.

Mythical Crusade of Nightmares is now officially a success!

I feel that I did well in editing, as the music is effective and the colours really do mix in very well, along with the audio and the transitions from 1 clip to another. I think I could of done more to improve though, as there are some bits where Bloodbeast's voice cuts out abruptly, that was due to the scene overlapping, and the ending kind of dragged on. But nevertheless, I am really happy with how it turned out.

Apparently, I will have to edit my film scene a second time after I have presented my first.

Nothing much, but I am updating this padlet again after an absence, since the holidays began and I finished up on the film scene project. Now, I am starting something anew which is on a corporate video. That is pretty much all to say....

I feel that corporate videos are educational videos and advertisements made and produced by an important corporate/business company to promote their values and role to get their point across and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

What makes a good corporate video: I think that to make a good one, you have to have it at a decent length of time, and also talk about the company's history, origins and what they do and whatnot, along with the opinions of everyone that works there as well, since that will give a good insight into the company. I will give some examples on what is good and not good for a corporate video.

Interviews
Employees talking
Insight into company
Considerable length of time
Facts/Statistics
Information (important)
Making sure it is perfect

Selling a product directly
No interviews
No company insight
Having it go on too long/short
Make sure it is NOT an advert or mini-documentary

Here are my examples of a corporate video
1. The Bear (Canal+)
2. TNT Corporate video
3. Our Shaves Are Great (DollarShaveClub)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUG9qYTJMsI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWOeEqyD_gM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDruG0lz9Go

I was handled with the task of making a corporate video of the college, by going around the area, filming some locations of the college and then getting interviews from students and staff who work in some of the courses there. I did that, splitting up from my group and going around the college.

I managed to gain some pretty good interviews and locations showing the walkthrough, especially around the front and in some locations, by moving around the place. On friday, I will be editing all of this up and then adding my narration of the places, so surely that will turn out to be great and pretty decent.
