The purpose of this assignment is to create an artifact about health, wellness, and well-being in the practice workplace based on the person you interviewed to offer professional perspectives based on industry, share community knowledge, build/gain awareness, and promote positive health practices and experiences. These artifacts can be a way to improve healthy workplace environments and provide recommended strategies for how to build professional resiliency across practice settings or industries. For this assignment you will create an artifact in a medium of your choice (infographic, podcast, comic strip, poem, essay, audio, video, among others) from excerpts from the person you interviewed in the second assignment. You will post your artifact on this Padlet and write 1 paragraph (or about 200 words) to accompany your artifact in the public posting: 1. What is the main point of the artifact that you created, including how it relates to the SDG Goal #3? 2. What can others learn about your artifact as it relates to health, wellness, and well-being in the workplace? 3.	How can we sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy and well?

Health Realities and Perceptions

Giselle Barrientos

COM100 10344

Liz Cantu

22 September 2025

Workplace environments play an important role in employees' wellbeing and can relate to stress and the amount of long hours worked. The purpose of this artifact is to highlight the importance of health, wellness and wellbeing in practice in the workplace by sharing these professionals' points of views and community knowledge. Organizational wellness has a key factor in influencing healthcare outcomes, by viewing these workplace policies, cultural practice and the wellbeing of employees. This artifact aims to show the key points on how organizations can help reduce healthcare costs, promote long term health benefits, and prevent illness.

Organizational wellness is a major aspect of workplace health, wide policies, cultures, and programs. These programs support employees wellbeing by stress management initiatives, flexible schedules, and access for help. While these programs influence productivity and overall wellness outcomes, many of these factors influence the effectiveness of organizational wellness. Social determinants of health play a role in how employees engage in these programs, supporting the shape perceptions of mental health and cultural norms. Environmental factors, including workplace, offices, noise levels also have an impact on the employees wellbeing. According to the World Health Organization, promoting supportive awareness to workplace environments and mental health reduces stress-related illness and improves organizational wellness.

Communication is the secret to wellness programs' success. If there is good and open communication, then it leads to improved understanding in trust, but poor communication leads to misunderstandings and confusion. Actionable strategies can be utilized to improve organizational well-being, such as preventive health screening, formal mental health programs, flexible work hours, and leadership development promoting healthy behaviors. These programs have the potential to create a workplace culture that is of worth in a way to deliver the health and wellbeing of staff, productivity, and retention. The majority of this research that I found most interesting was the strong relationship between the healthcare outcome and organizational wellbeing in culture. The most challenging insight was the social, cultural and environment factors in creating a successful wellness program. Additionally putting everything together shows an overall organizational wellness approach can reduce healthcare costs, and enhance employee healthcare and a healthier work environment.

My artifact is a PowerPoint presentation based on the interview I had with my Psychologist Gloria. The main purpose of the presentation is to educate others about health, wellness, and wellbeing in their workplace through first-hand experience. Furthermore, it will provide different initiatives Gloria takes in her work environment and promote them to be applied universally to any individual/workplace. For instance, Gloria suggested that health and wellness start with the individual. This is achieved first through a healthy diet, exercise, and social activity; all things that are vital to us humans. This presentation relates to the SDG GOAL #3: Good Health and Well-being, by focusing on mental and physical health, promoting healthy practices applicable to any profession, and offering strategies to create professional resilience in stressful workplace environments. As an example, Gloria discussed that fostering professional resilience relies on a positive mindset and work environment. This includes creating safe spaces, open communication, and implementing resources to learn/grow. Therefore, others will learn how to manage stress, different strategies to implement in their workplace, and how to create professional resilience when it comes to health, wellness, and well-being in their workplace. With that, this presentation also offers ways to sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy and well. These initiatives include implementing the practices Gloria discussed in our interview not only for individuals but for the workplace/community. It also suggests developing a health, wellness, and well-being onboarding initiative for new hires. This onboarding initiative will be a way for workplaces or communities to strive for healthy environments and educate individuals on how this is achieved. It also suggests that regular check-ins and wellness days should be included to make health and wellness the focal point of the organization or community. Lastly, it suggests continuously improving these practices for the best results.

My artifact was a Powerpoint presentation showing the conversation had between a hospice nurse (Aunt) and I.

- My main point in this artifact was specifically how mentally tiring the job could be but how it takes a strong mindset to go into the job everyday because you almost always know the outcome of every case. This relates directly to SDG #3 because it ensures that your mental wellbeing is in a good place to ensure good health and wellbeing.

- My artifact could help others learn how to manage the stress and mental hardships this job could bring you. We talk about how to get through hard times and to focus on things outside of work to get your mind off cases.

- We can sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy to all by ensuring everyone has access to resources they may need. Working in healthcare, everyone should have access to a therapist. Having a safe space to talk about the traumatic things they may come across can give them the outlet they need to not take that stress home with them. All workplaces need a supportive and inclusive culture as well to ensure no one feels alone or isolated. This will support the strong mental and physical well being of the staff knowing that they have a supportive community.

My artifact is a PowerPoint on my interview with my aunt who is a business owner. The main point of this artifact is to show and make future business owners remember that they need to take time for themselves. It is not always about work, it is easy to drown yourself in work without knowing. This relates to SDG goal #3 because it mentions mental health. In my interview my aunt mentioned how there was a time when she was starting her business and was consumed by the work load to get it going. The stress took a toll on her mental health without her realizing how bad it was affecting her until friends and family pointed it out to her. It is important to take time for yourself as well. Book a meeting with yourself because your health and well being is important as well. It starts with you, without a healthy you, you can not keep going.

For my artifact I chose to do a PowerPoint presentation. I did the interview on my sister Brianna who is a registered nurse. What is the main point of the artifact I created, including how it relates to the SDG goal #3? The main point of my artifact I created was to show how challenging and demanding being an RN can be. It also shows how it can affect you physically and mentally. It relates to the SDG goal #3 by promoting and supporting a healthcare worker. What can others learn about my artifact as it relates to health, wellness, and well-being in the workplace? Others can learn that being an RN or at least a healthcare worker is difficult and not an easy job. It can affect yourself and make you put in a lot of effort when working. This information reflects how much nurses help in healthcare and how important they healthcare. How can we sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy and well? We can sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy and well? We can sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy and well by prioritizing mental and physical well being. We can look out for our workplaces and provide them with what they need.

Walking Vs. Running

Walking is often considered healthier than running for many people because it provides many of the same physical and mental benefits while placing less stress on the body. One of the biggest advantages of walking is that it is a low-impact exercise. When a person walks, the joints especially the knees, hips, and ankles experience significantly less force than they do during running. This lower impact reduces the risk of injuries such as stress fractures, shin splints, and joint strain. Because of this, walking is a safer and more sustainable activity for people of all ages, including beginners, older adults, or those recovering from injuries.

Walking is also easier to maintain consistently over long periods of time. Since it requires less physical strain and recovery time, people are more likely to stick with a walking routine compared to a running routine. Consistency is one of the most important factors in improving long-term health. Regular walking can improve cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of heart disease, and help maintain a healthy weight.walking can be more accessible and adaptable than running. It does not require special training or intense conditioning, and it can easily be incorporated into daily life by walking to nearby places, taking breaks during work, or enjoying time outdoors. Walking also supports mental health by reducing stress, improving mood, and promoting relaxation.while running burns more calories in a shorter amount of time, walking provides a safer, more sustainable, and accessible way for many people to stay active and support long-term physical and mental well-being. Personally, Walking seems to be more healthy with almost no downside but doctors have told me before while I was in the military that running all the time for physically training can hurt our joints and backs as we progress into Old age.

The main point of the artifact I created is to highlight possible struggles that an individual may face if they choose to go into healthcare. At the same, we want to provide ideas based on what my nurse practitioner has done to overcome these common troubles. This relates to SDG goal#3 because it talks about mental health, stress and wellness. Others can learn that, although being in the healthcare field is very rewarding, they may come across a lot of struggles. That does not mean that they are alone. It simply means that they must adapt in a different way to overcome these struggles. It is important to be an advocate for oneself because sometimes we do not have resources available to us. It is important that we prioritize ourselves, our physical and mental well-being to successfully enjoy and further our career. We can sustainably build workplaces and communities that are healthy by providing more resources and maybe having more open and honest conversations about what individuals may need when entering the medical field. Yes, the life of a healthcare worker may seem great, but once you have an internal view of what a person may go through you realize that there may be some negative aspects within this field of work. For that reason, it is important to advocate and create platforms where ideas for a healthy workplace can be suggested and introduced to the healthcare field.

The main point of this PowerPoint I have created is to provide what it looks like as a healthcare provider working at Arizona Department of Corrections and how your health, and mental state could be affected based on a professionals perspective I interviewed. This Project relates to SDG Goal #3 because I explain how an providers mental and physical health are very crucial for the prison to run smoothly. While working in prison Health providers meet with 20+ severely mentally ill inmates a day, the providers health is an asset for public safety. People can learn that this job is very stressful and unstable. Health providers are faced with having to work 12+ hours while dealing with unstable inmates or going to court to be a witness. I realized that resilience is a requirement rather than an option. You must be able to relieve yourself from stress at the gate to avoid the feeling of burnout. We can improve and build healthy workplaces in Arizona Department of Corrections by offering more support outlets to staff. This can be by providing more mental health resources such as, therapy and counseling. By doing this, it creates a strong foundation for the staff and the public/community.

Using exact quotes from my conversation with my mom, a registered nurse, the poem I wrote focuses on the emotional, cultural, and environmental challenges that nurses encounter at work. It draws attention to the main issues she raised, including understaffing, emotional tiredness, communication difficulties, and the quiet fortitude needed to come back every day with compassion. Because nurses' well-being is intimately related to that of the patients and communities they serve, this directly relates to SDG Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being. Patient care and safety are impacted when nurses suffer from burnout, excessive workloads, or emotional stress. This artifact can teach others that workplace wellbeing is influenced by systemic issues including staffing numbers, communication methods, cultural understanding, and access to mental health support, rather than being solely an individual responsibility. When businesses emphasize mental health resources, foster supportive team cultures, promote boundaries, and address the social and cultural barriers that affect care, sustainable, healthy workplaces flourish. We can better comprehend the emotional labor involved in healthcare and promote settings that safeguard both employees and patients by hearing about the real-life experiences of nurses. In the end, helping nurses improves the healthcare system as a whole and advances SDG Goal #3.

Here are three core strategies to build professional resiliency:

The "Check-In" Culture: Normalize 5-minute debriefs after high-stress events. This prevents the "stacking" of trauma and allows teams to process adrenaline before moving to the next task.

Radical Boundaries: Implement "Deep Work" zones and "Post-Shift Rituals." Creating a physical or mental "airlock" between work and home ensures that stress doesn't bleed into recovery time.

Micro-Rest Practices: Resilience isn't about enduring exhaustion; it’s about strategic recovery. Using techniques like the Box Breathing method (inhale 4s, hold 4s, exhale 4s, hold 4s) can reset the autonomic nervous system in under a minute.

Workplace Mental Health - Resilience: A strong workforce needs it.

This artifact is a poem based on an interview with Lauren Baker, an emergency room nurse in Pheonix, AZ. She has worked in healthcare for seven years. The main purpose of this piece is to highlight the real experiences nurses face, especially regarding stress, burnout, and resilience in a fast paced medical environment. Through her insights, the poem reflects how constant pressure and emotional demands can impact healthcare workers, while also showing the importance of building resilience through support systems, self awareness, and balance. This connects to Sustainable Development Goal #3 by emphasizing not only patient care but also mental and emotional health of healthcare professionals. Others can learn from this artifact that maintaining well being in the workplace is essential, especially in high stress careers like nursing. It also raises awareness about burnout and encourages healthier coping strategies and support within professional environments. Overall, the poem aims to give a realistic yet hopeful perspective on healthcare work and the importance of caring for both others and oneself.

The main point of my artifact is to show the challenges healthcare workers face while still providing care and support to patients every day. My presentation is based on an interview with my aunt, who works as a surgery coordinator in a government hospital that mainly serves low-income patients, inmates, and refugees. She discussed the biggest stressors in her job, such as helping patients who cannot afford surgeries, dealing with burnout, and maintaining her mental health while working in a stressful environment. This relates to SDG #3 because it focuses on improving health and well-being for both patients and healthcare workers. Others can learn that healthcare workers experience emotional and mental stress daily, which is why support systems, self-care, teamwork, and communication are very important in the workplace. My artifact also shows how compassion and resilience help healthcare workers continue providing quality care, even during difficult situations. We can sustainably build healthier workplaces and communities by encouraging open communication, providing mental health support, creating positive work environments, and making healthcare more accessible to people who struggle financially and need medical care the most, which can improve overall health outcomes for everyone involved.

This artefact offers reflections from a nurse in a mental health hospital on the health, wellbeing and resilience of nurses in high stress health care settings. This artifact aims to demonstrate that nurse well-being is essential and that strategies such as peer support, mental health breaks, and resilience training, are instrumental to this. The nurse explained that emotional stressors that accompany patients' crises in mental health environments, as well as the stigma associated with mental health, can result in burnout, unless addressed. The artifact presents some practical ways of implementing a well being approach in the workplace, including establishing a culture of support, mental health is normal and acceptable to discuss, and adequate staffing to prevent burnout. These recommendations are in line with SDG Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being and are focused not only on the health and well-being of patients, but also of health care workers. Improving staff wellness can help to foster health in the workplace, leading to better employee retention and care quality. This artefact is a reminder of the critical role healthy workplaces play in maintaining sustainable, caring care, and how healthy practices can lead to individual and organizational resilience.

My artifact focuses on the important role Community Health Workers have in supporting health, wellness, and well-being in the workplace and community. Through the interview and poem, I wanted to show how healthcare workers help people by providing support, resources, education, and compassion, even during stressful situations. This relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being because Community Health Workers help improve access to healthcare, promote mental health, and encourage healthier lives for individuals and families. Others can learn that healthcare workers also experience stress, burnout, and emotional challenges, which is why workplace wellness and mental health support are very important. My artifact highlights how teamwork, self-care, communication, and support systems can help workers stay resilient and motivated in their careers. We can sustainably build healthy workplaces and communities by creating supportive environments where people feel valued, respected, and encouraged to care for both their physical and mental health. Providing access to wellness programs, mental health resources, teamwork, and healthy work-life balance can help workers continue making positive differences in their communities.

This artifact focuses on health, wellness, and well-being in the workplace through the experiences of a social worker. After interviewing my cousin Isabella, I learned that social work can be very meaningful, but also emotionally stressful. Social workers spend a lot of time helping people through difficult situations, which can sometimes lead to stress, burnout, and emotional exhaustion. This connects to SDG Goal #3, Good Health and Well-Being, because mental health is important not only for clients, but also for workers themselves. From this interview, people can learn that employees need support, healthy work environments, and access to mental health resources. Isabella explained that social workers are often focused on helping others so much that they forget to take care of themselves. I also learned that resilience can be built through self-care, support systems, and setting healthy boundaries. Overall, healthier workplaces can help employees feel supported and improve the well-being of both workers and the communities they serve.

ALLISON LANDEROS

The main point of my artifact is to show the importance of health, wellness, and resilience in the firefighting profession. Through my interview, I learned that firefighters experience physical exhaustion, emotional stress, and high-pressure situations on a regular basis. Because of this, maintaining mental health, strong communication, and supportive relationships in the workplace is extremely important. My artifact connects to SDG Goal #3, Good Health and Well-Being, because it promotes awareness of mental health, stress management, and healthy workplace environments for first responders. Others can learn that wellness in the workplace is not only physical, but also emotional and mental. Support from coworkers, healthy coping strategies, and open communication can help reduce burnout and improve overall well-being. To sustainably build healthy workplaces and communities, employers should encourage mental health awareness, provide support systems, promote work-life balance, and create environments where employees feel supported and valued. This project helped me better understand the importance of resilience in demanding careers like firefighting.

When we are working for many years at a time, we often don’t realize the types of effects it may have on us. This can be both mental and physical effects, but for how we handle said effects is different from person to person along with job to job. Since people’s perspectives can be different from one another, a manager who works at a financial institution was asked to interview with a few questions to have a better idea of at least one person’s perspective of their own experiences in the workplace. What was said in that interview was rather interesting, with talks about different strategies one could take in dealing with burnout but it also showed some of the issues you may need to deal with including communications outside of office hours. While we did talk some positive aspects, it does give an interesting perspective into the negatives aspects that can occur in a work environment especially as most of these issues are typically not highlighted by others. By understanding the negative aspects of our workplaces, we can better understand how we could improve upon the existing structures of many workplaces. But if we choose to ignore these issues, they may potentially grow with time and cause serious issues in both workers health and also health of the workplace itself.

The main point of this artifact is to highlight the connection between healthcare workplace stress, patient access to care, and the importance of resilience and wellness among healthcare workers. Based on an interview with a surgery coordinator at a government-funded hospital, the artifact shows how financial barriers can prevent patients from receiving surgeries, which creates stress for both patients and healthcare professionals while also impacting hospital workflow. This connects directly to SDG Goal #3 (Good Health and Well-being) because it emphasizes the need to improve access to healthcare services while also supporting the mental and emotional well-being of healthcare workers.

Others can learn from this artifact that health, wellness, and well-being in the workplace are deeply connected to both system-level challenges and individual coping strategies. Healthcare workers often experience emotional strain and risk of burnout, making it essential to have strong support systems, effective communication, and healthy coping strategies such as teamwork, breaks, and empathy.

We can sustainably build healthier workplaces and communities by prioritizing both patient care and worker well-being. This includes improving access to healthcare, reducing barriers to treatment, and creating supportive work environments that encourage collaboration, mental health awareness, and resilience.

The main point of the artifact I created, a recorded interview video, was to explore the importance of health, wellness, and well-being in the workplace through the perspective of a leader in a life sciences lab setting. I interviewed the head of the life-science division, Brian which focused on reducing workplace stress, supporting mental health, and creating a positive and healthy work environment for employees and students from a life-science perspective. Through the interview, I learned how his leadership, communication skills, and workplace support systems can improve both personal well-being and professional success. Others can learn from this artifact that workplace wellness is not only about physical health, but also about emotional support, stress management, resilience, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The interview also showed that supportive leadership and teamwork can positively impact the morale and productivity of his team. We can sustainably build healthy workplaces and communities by encouraging open communication, providing wellness resources, promoting balance between work and personal life, and creating environments where individuals feel supported, respected, and valued. These practices help strengthen both individuals and the overall community.
