Finally, the Middle Colonies were the most religiously tolerant in that they weren't focused on religion. If you could afford your own passage to Jamestown you would be given 50 acres. 
The next big occurrence would be the the emergence of slaves, up until 1619 voluntary indentured servitude was what kept the economy afloat until they realized that all the servants were becoming masters and had to look else where. Leading to the Middle Passage, aka the start of slaves replacing indentured servants. 
The Chesapeake colonies cash crop was tobacco.
The final thing would be the navigation Acts of 1651 which basically said Englishmen couldn't directly trade with European nations leading to smuggling. England were beginning to place restrictions on the colonies.
