The Fault in our Stars by John Green is a young adult fiction book about two teens with cancer who fall in love with each other. Hazel, the main character, has thyroid cancer. Augustus, Hazel's boyfriend, has osteosarcoma. Augustus and Hazel meet at a support group and spend every moment with each other from then on. The story follows their whole journey together, the ups and the downs.

The Fault in our Stars is a great book. I rank it a 10/10 because it teaches many life lessons and ultimately makes you appreciate life a lot more. I would highly recommend everyone to read this because of the morals it teaches. It has a lot of great turning points- especially the end. It is an awesome book that can make you smile and cry at the same time.

The universal theme in The Fault in our Stars is the importance of life. Hazel, the main character, has thyroid cancer. She is aware that she does not have much longer to live, so she tries to live her life to the fullest. Her diagnosis has really made her realize the true importance of life. She even says in the book "You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, but you do have some say in who hurts you" (Green, 313).

Hazel realizes a lot more about life then the average teen her age.
Many people Hazel's age these days do not know the importance of life. Many people take their lives for granted every single day. Hazel is only 16 years old and has to face the reality of death. Teens these days have way less worries than Hazel. Most teens do not wake up in the morning thankful because they are still alive like Hazel does.

Hazel Grace Lancaster is the main character in The Fault in our Stars. She is a 16 year old girl with thyroid cancer. She is a typical teenager but more mature because of her diagnosis. She has no illusion about her sickness and really opens up about it in the book. She has accepted her condition and really doesn't like anything to do with trying to help it- including the support group her mom forces her to attend.

Her hatred for the support group she is forced to attend all changes one day when they have a special guest. Augustus Waters, who has osteosarcoma, comes to the support group with his friend Issac for the first time. It was love at first sight between him and Hazel. They fall in love after that and he becomes Hazels first love. At the end of the book, Augustus dies. The pain from his death becomes the worst pain Hazel has ever suffered through. Augustus was a big part of her life.

Honestly, i cannot relate to Hazel. I do not know what it feels like to be dying. Although the book has made me appreciate life a lot more, I will never know what it feels like to be Hazel. I'll never know what it feels like to go through what she goes through every day. Hazel's story has taught me a lot about life, but i cannot relate to her.
