At 7:14pm October 21st I embarked on a brave fierce journey… I walked from my dorm to the 7/11 up 169th and around the corner and after reading the springgay and truman walking reading embodiment really stuck with me because as I was walking I noticed a lot about the environment around me like how the trees are changing colors because it's fall and the cracks in sidewalks and roads. When I was walking I was listening to my calm playlist which contains just singing like low tempo beats and I was noticing I was walking to the beat but then I realized i do that all the time when I have music in my headphones like when its a rap song I would start walking faster. Me listening to my playlist can also go back to embodiment because I really connected with myself and as I’m walking down a long dim road full of homes on the side. At the moment the songs were just so relateble and I was able to understand how I feel about certain events and people. “embodied way of knowing where movement connects mind, body, and environment.” I also experienced sensory inquiry, walking past the trash cans there was some unusual smells and it was really windy I could feel the wind forming my goosebumps underneath my Arc’teryx Jacket. “texture of feet touching the ground, air brushing against cheeks, or the smells of city streets.” I feel as that 169th street is different from other streets is that it has the most houses on the street in a two block radius. This street is accessible to everybody but that is the street where a lot students live for off campus housing. 169th streets take me down to 7/11, addictions and Dunkin’ and I could find out more maybe talking to a person who has been a homeowner on 169th street for a long time and they could tell me stories that might’ve happened on this street or how the street has changed in ways like what signs were newly added or how the pavement developed over time. I feel like walking research can help be more involved with our senses and awareness after reading and walking i’m definitely going to think different while I’m walking and I can pay attention to things I do while walking like how I walk to the beat of a song or when I’m walking and listening to music those are normally the time I think about things deeply and doing a lot of brainstorming and overall feel connected to my self.
