French fashion during 2000-2010 is stemmed through new technologies, such as online shopping, as well as the working woman, and demand for cheaper, wearable clothing (Rodgers et al 2016: 765). These trends can be seen through online shopping, that greatly increased during the technological age, and created less demand for stores, similarly to the beginning of French fashion during the reign of King Louis XIV where clothes were made by personal seamstresses (Rodgers et al 2016: 763). The French fashion industry was also influenced by women in business fields and high positions creating business outfits with masculine styles, but with feminine colors and flare, such as pencil skirts and blazers in bright colors and prints(Glamour Magazine 2018: 3:52). Lastly, the age of wearable and cheap fashion stole over the world through youth and hip hop, seen in baggy clothes and street-wear(Glamour Magazine 2018: 4:09).

In 2001, the influence of Couture and women in the workforce combined to provide couture outfits for a working woman(Fashion by Look 2013: 2:09). The style mimicked the working class dresses, but added a couture flare. The outfit above, is by Chanel for their Autumn-Winter 2001 collection. The term used for high end business outfits, was known as business couture and was not created to be worn in the office, but rather to appeal to high end and wealthy women who have a career and want to be fashionable(Fashion by Look 2013: 6:20). This business couture created a new wave in fashion, styling women in more business attire with a twist.

The outfit above is another example of business couture, but uses simple yet well executed lines and darts to create a clean and sharp look. This outfit was created by Saint Laurent for his Spring 2001 collection and tailored more towards actual working women who worked but also wanted high end tailored looks. This continued the trend of a working woman, but continuing making working clothes fashionable. Though some companies took the business look to a fashionable extreme that could not be worked in, after 2001, we begin to see a shift to fashionable yet wearable outfits for the working woman(Fashion by Look 2013: 6:32). This is also influenced through online purchasing and youth ideas of fashion through hip-hop and cheap wearable clothing, that makes couture business become street wear and wearable business, but still fashionable and feminine(Pouille 2016: 2.

Valentino created this red lady-like coat for the average working woman in 2002. The outfit created a new trend of wearable looks, but bold colors and patterns that kept a feminine edge, while using elements of masculine attire such as collars and the trench coat(Glamour Magazine 2018: 3:52). After 2001, a shift from business couture to business wear, created more affordable clothes for the working class. They also became more readily available as online shopping continued to spread, and allow faster and cheaper clothes that could be seen on the street. A shift also began to show a change from only pencil skirt business clothes, seen in the early 2000s, to fashionable pant suits and jumpsuits that created a business yet causal vibe stemming from youth(Pouille 2016: 4).

The jumpsuit made an appearance around 2003-2004 as a quick outfit with bold colors and patterns to make a loud statement. This was photographed by Victoria Adamson for a Fall/Winter 2003 collection. It combines street-wear with business wear, and made for easy and quick styling for the woman on the go. It also shows the influence of hip-hop from the youth, who wanted cheap and easy clothing, but is still business, as the later 2000s will show a change from sleek clothing to baggy sweaters and pants influenced by hip-hop, that will eventually reemerge with business attire(Pouille 2016: 5. Though the jumpsuit continues to go in and out of fashion, its' style changes from business to casual and comes in and out of style throughout the 2000s.

Overly large sweaters and tunics became the fashion of 2003-2004, and mixed the new age music of hip-hop with business attire(Pouille 2016: 7). Leggings and boots were paired with large sweaters and tunics to create an illusion of overly baggy clothes, exemplified from the tights(Fashion by Look 2013: 4:10). These outfits come from Valentino in Fall/Winter 2004 and continue the trend of street wear and Hip-hop business inspired fashion. In 2005, there is a switch to strictly hip-hop fashion and can be seen in the runways of France through baggy clothes and hoods, that the youth demanded with more affordable clothes.

This outfit by Coco Chanel in a Spring/Fall collection 2005. The baggy pants and shirt with the iconic Coco Chanel emblem that showed street wear influenced by hip-hop in iconic fashion brands. This outfit mimicked youth influences, and went against the traditional outfits that Coco Chanel use to make of high end couture business clothes. In a sense the outfit suggests that the brand is what is important and that they can make even cheap youth clothing expensive and desirable. Though many designers were influenced by hip-hop, some even went so far as to design outfits that directly show the hip-hop style.

This outfit by Xavier Delcour for his 2005 Spring/Summer showed the essence of the hip-hop trend and youth clothing through a baggy hooded top and short shorts. This outfit resembled the 'rebellious' youth that created a sense of power with a laid back style(Pouille 2016: 6). However, after 2005 the direct representation of hip-hop would go back to influencing business and the working woman. Hip-hop business would come back in style and stay until 2010, when unique individuality emerged(Fashion by Look 2013: 15:13(. From 2006-2010, a mixture of causal clothes and hip-hop influences created clothing that was wearable and able to be worn by youth and the average working woman.

From 2006-2010, hip-hop continued to influence fashion, including both street and business wear. Hip-hop business wear comes back during 2006, but creates more of a laid back attitude for the working woman. Tones of gray, black, and browns are different then that vibrant colors seen in the beginning of the 2000s(Pouille 2016: 3). This outfit by Lois Vuitton for a Fall 2006 collection, shows the influence of hip-hop on French fashion and able to be mass produced and sold online. The new millennial youth created statements around the world for easy going outfits both for street wear and in business. Colors go from feminine to more easy to wear colors that sum up 2000-2010 and the new age of online shopping and music(Fashion by Look 2013: 10:12).
