https://padlet.com/se1227/https5eqtx024hxve Mount Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy, about 9 km (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It's coordinates are: 40°49′N 14°26′E. It has erupted many times, but it's most famous and destructive eruption was the one of 79 AD, which completely devastated surrounding Roman villages. The volcano erupted again in 1631, six times in the 18th century (especially in 1779 and 1794), eight times in the 19th century (notably in 1872), and in 1906, 1929 and 1944. There have been no eruptions since 1944, and none of the eruptions after AD 79 were as large or destructive as the Pompeian one. Vesuvius today, has been declared as a National Park open to visitors and tourists.
