Many viewers claim that the series based on the novel enhanced teen suicide and foolishly paints or duplicate teen relationships. This book went on to become a Netflix series. Soon after premiering, the show faced backlash regarding its depiction of suicide. A number of activists and health professionals started voicing concerns that the scene may have contributed to copycat suicides among teens. Some School libraries and classrooms had this book banned from their schools altogether. It’s been placed on the American Library Association’s list of most challenged and removed books.

Many parents thought that this book was inappropriate for younger teens due to the suicide and 🤬 that was portrayed. I know on the Netflix series When her parents find her in the bathtub in a pool of blood I thought This was a very graphic scene to show. Parents felt that this was very disturbing. However, Netflix later removed the suicide scene, and all that’s shown is the aftermath. I felt like the book shouldn't have been banned because it teaches kids more about what not to do then what to emulate.

In 2017, Netflix adapted Thirteen Reasons Why into a series that ran for four seasons. Yet, despite the book’s success, it faced criticism for its focus on teen alcohol use, sexual assault, and suicide, resulting in it being added to the American Library Association’s list of most challenged and removed books. I have watched the series and I thought it was quite realistic. I didn't focus solely on the suicide aspect. It has a range of different topics like bullying, 🤬, drinking, abuse, depression. As a parent with teenagers I think this would be a great series to sit down and watch this together and have an open dialogue about it. We all should read the book or watch the series to get a better understanding of how our actions don't just affect ourselves but everyone.

The book/show brings forth into discussion a great deal of complicated subjects. Nevertheless, it could be called one of the greatest shows ever because of how the bond of friendship took precedence. It tells us to refrain from bullying, to understand that there are always multiple sides to a story, to take in as important it is to help others. Let’s not forget to point out the interrelationship between teens, their parents and guardians, the teachers, classmates, the society and how these relationships are to be improved to ensure the safety of teenagers during their emotionally-challenging years.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is considered a classic novel. This book was banned due to some violent scenes along with profanity. A woman was accidentally strangled to death by Lenny, who had an intellectual disability. He was big and strong and didn't quite know his strength. He was mesmerized by the woman’s beauty, he was in love. She knew she was beautiful but still seeked attention. She somewhat caused her own fate, accidentally strangled to death by someone she knew was mentally unstable.

This book was banned and challenged for racial slurs and racist stereotypes, and their negative effects. Not only the racial slurs but two people died also. The girl, at the hand of Lenny, after she tempts him into stroking her hair. And then Lenny is killed by one of the main character’s George Milton. This book could be looked at in two different ways. Back then it would be hard to say whether the death of Lenny was fair. The story to me seems very questionable than the answers that it provides. 

I have watched ’Of Mice and Men’ a few times. It does cause an impact on you with all the drama that takes place.  I’ve never read the book, so hopefully the movie didn't leave out much details. Back then there didn't seem like any support or the proper care that was required for special needs children but in Lenny’s case an adult. The character of Lenny till this day has been anchored into today’s culture as a joke with many different quotes, one being his love for rabbits.
