Early Childhood Education Professional Organizations!

The first organization I chose is called the National Association for the Education of young Children a.k.a (NAEYC). I think if you have been in childcare for a while you have heard of them. It is a professional membership organization that works to promote high quality learning for young children from birth through 8. According to the site, this organization consist of 66,000 members. Their vision statement is " All young children thrive and learn in in a society dedicated to ensuring they reach their full potential." https://www.naeyc.org/. This association has a Georgia affiliate called the GAEYC.

The NAEYC offers four membership categories which are: Entry level, Standard, Premium, and family. Prices range from $30-$150. Entry level is a digitally based introduction to the organization and it comes with a variety of professional resources . If you decide to join a few benefits include: access to HELLO and you are able to connect with other members who share the same interest as you. Another benefit from joining at this level is you receive discounts on insurance, exclusive asses to NAECY events and discounted supplies. The next level is standard and this membership costs $69 to join. once you join you access to the latest resources events, research and discounts. This membership provides you with a one complimentary registration for a professional learning course and full access to the digital archive of Young Children. The Premium membership costs $150 receive all benefits of both the entry and standard benefits plus two professional learning courses. This membership plan will also give you VIP access to events, such as book signings and networking events. The last one is called the Family Membership which costs $35. This plan option is designed for people outside of the early learning profession including parents and advocates for early childhood. With this membership you would receive discounted insurance offerings such as home and auto, access to NAEYC content specifically to for family's. They tell you about how to find the best high quality learning centers as well.

The organization would benefit me in my professional career because they provide continuous online learning. For example they offer online training for how to assess children from 3 to 5. Considering that I want to become a Pre-k lead I would find this to be the most useful. They provide trainings for each age group starting from infants to kindergarten. They also provide accreditation training. It can benefit me because it provides a great networking space so if in the future if I had questions I know I would be able to connect with others. The next organization is called High scope (https://highscope.org/who-we-are/). Their goal is to ensure every child receives high-quality, equitable early childhood education. Their research shows and proves that when children receive eve a high-quality early education improves their chances for long term success. The best part about this organization is membership is free. The benefits include a networking space, resources from early childhood experts. This organization would benefit me in my professional career because they too offer ongoing professional training. More importantly they offer trainings tailored for your development. They teach you how to develop lesson plans, how to set up large groups and much more. I found it interesting that they offer a course on how to introduce math to preschoolers. They give you a curriculum box for infant and preschool, so they are literally giving you the tools needed to provide a quality and engaging learning experience for the classroom. It's focused on eight content areas such as math, creative arts, language and literacy and science and technology.

The last organization I picked was the National Association for Family. They offer memberships for providers and advocates, associations and agencies and businesses. I thought that was pretty unique because the last two were geared toward individuals. For providers, individuals and advocates they offer silver and the gold memberships. The Gold membership is $189/yearly. With this package the individual receives a one year subscription to kidcare or Quorum and free registration to NAFCC webinars. If you join at the silver level you get discounts on NAFCC accreditation, monthly e-newsletter on updates and access to online training.(https://www.nafcc.org/Providers-and-Advocates)

Part 2

The 5 qualities I believe an early childhood professional should have is a passion for early childhood education, patience, creative ,understanding diversity and great communication skills. As a teacher we need to understand that every child is not the same nor do they learn the same. It is up to us to be understanding of that and create a classroom environment that fits the needs of our students It is important to also have great communication skills. We are in constant communication with staff, students and parents and we need this skill to create and build relationships with others. Patience is another key feature to have because you have to get to know who your kids are and that to me is the fun part learning they're different personalities. In learning them you might have some students who will be a challenge for you but as a teacher you have to look beyond that and learn how to get through to them. If you don't have a passion for the field you will not be successful because everyday is different. Sometimes you'll have days where you feel like you don't want to come to work. However, even though some days are harder than others you get a satisfaction knowing your students are learning from you and they leave the classroom better then when they first arrived.

Refernces:

Bean-Mellinger, B.
