In my novel engineering lesson, I read the book “La Princesa de Vestido de Bolsa de Papel” written by Robert Munsch. The story is based on a princess who is in the search of her prince because a dragon took him and ate her castle. Students were asked to identify the characters, the problem, the climax, and the solution of the novel. Students were then assigned to work in groups of 3-4 students to engage in their engineering activity challenge! Using graham crackers, frosting, gummies, marshmallows, mini brownies, and toothpicks for materials; students worked in teams in order to decide what materials they will use, and how they will use them in order to build a new home for the princess (home or castle). During the process, students were given the task to complete the lab worksheet; where they had to write down their hypothesis, procedure, materials, and reflection of the novel engineering activity. Students were given fifteen minutes to complete the task.

Students were read Goldilocks and The Three Bears. Students reviewed and evaluated the problems that rose from the story-->Goldilocks broke furniture, so now it was her duty to create sturdy furniture for the Bears.

Students were given popsticle sticks, index cards, tape, straws and pompons. They had to create a sturdy bed for the Bears with limited time and materials.

The forms of evaluations students made were in two forms, literary and structural. For example, students evaluated Goldilocks behavior and demeanor in regards to other's property as well as evaluate the structure of the items in the Bears' home.

Students then "became" Goldilocks addressed the issues they created and fix them. This played into our "Golden Rule" & "Kindness Week" where students practiced the "Golden Rule".

Students began a new theme on Reader’s Theater for our Literature “ELA” portion of the week. The story they began to read was “The UnCinderella” and the students began to perform their pieces of literature. They then began to point out anterior endings to the story and began to write their own endings in groups.

Students were then asked to create their own castle as a group in a team effort that would also be able to hold a bag of erasers at the top of the castle.

As part of out reading, Chicken Sunday, the students were challenged to build an egg transport to deliver their "pysanky" eggs safely to our teacher. The pysanky eggs were a peace offering from a group of kids to a shop owner who everyone thought was mean and grumpy. The students had a discussion about how we transport yourself to different places. Then they were given a box of supplies and they worked on their own to draft and execute their egg transport.
