The color scheme for Laramie is very interesting to see, lots of bright colors and different buildings. No one consistent style apart from the clear church in the background.

A poster I found protesting Matthew's death. Might make for a good banner for later in the show, and then will be created off of real artwork.

Laramie Sign

Laramie sign, very rustic and old looking. Color themes are neutral with browns being the majority color. The sign structure has a metal detail around it, which is an interesting detail to consider when making signs.

Laramie Mountains

Very interesting to see how the mountain range near Laramie Wyoming actually looks. Matthews father describes it as a peaceful range to look on as he was laying there, and I think when he's describing it, this would be an interesting image to depict or try to have somewhere in the background.

The view of this town from far away puts into perspective how small this town is, but also how large an impact they've made on the world. It's very interesting to see where Matthew grew up and where this took place.

Matthew Shepard Funeral

Seeing the snow in the funeral makes me realize how bad of a storm it was, and how many people still came out no matter what was going on outside. It's also not the typical funeral depicted on TV, no all black, no black umbrellas, beautiful snow and what would be a regular day for some people.

The Fence

I can't believe a fence so small had such a large impact on the world. I want to use this fence design all over the set so that once it's announced that's where he died, every time the audience looks at the fence they are reminded of him.

Now JJ's, was Fireside Bar

The outside of what used to be the fireside. I think it's interesting to see the architecture and maybe can lend to an angle of the set as the Fireside is mentioned so often in the show.

Fireside Interior

Supposedly the interior of the fireside. We get a description of the bar in the play. however it's interesting to visualize it as there are things that weren't mentioned in the description.

Violence is not a Laramie Value

An older sign, with an older Laramie saying from when this happened. I would love to work this sign in somehow, and keep it on stage after the sign is talked about in the show.

Matthew Shepard Vigil

I've seen candlelight vigils before, but this one is so small with little signs that mean so much to me. I think this can lend to the design of the show and show just how murder and brutality affects people.

Hate Signs

This sign makes me actually want to vomit, but it's important to see what Fred Phelps was saying at the funeral. Physically see it. A sign or two that needs to be shown to show just how hateful he is.

Angel Costumes

I pictured something very different when thinking of the angel's costumes, but this is beautiful. It expertly blocks out the hate behind them, and allows for peaceful protest.

More Hate Signs

Seeing different versions of the hate signs is interesting. These could be used for protesting the funeral, however, should be kept to a minimum. It gives options without having to make up signs that might hurt people.

University Sign

Artwork that was rendered on his last night when he was tied to the fence and beaten. It captures the beauty of the sky while his pain is extremely evident. Artwork like this can be referenced for color scheme and lighting.

It's very interesting to see how different downtown Laramie is. There's a lot of color, and the building structures are all different.

The buildings are so different! The church feels like it stands out a lot from the other buildings downtown, and I think this would be an interesting contrast within the set.

Railing Inspiration

I like how you can tell this is the old west, or feel a little more western than usual just by the look of the railings and platform. I definitely want to use something like this to make sure people understand where they are in the play.
