When the church of Jesus Christ was first etablished in the 1830's. The members and leaders faced much persacution and was forced to move its headquarters from New York to Ohio, then from Ohio to Missouri, and from Missouri to Illinios all due to mob violence and lack of fedral government support. In 1844 the prophet Joseph Smith aling with his brither Hyrum Smith were murdered in Carthage Illinois. Knowing they had no place safe, under the leadershio of Brigham Young the members of the church began to trek westward were they would eventually settle what is now the Salt Lake Valley in Utah. Because of the past history of persecution many members were angry and untrusting of outsiders, but as time went on eventually that anger left and trust began to rebuild.

The enviroment is very important to members of my community. Charity and love are very valued charicteristcs among members of the Church of Jesus Christ. The Church of Jesus Christ owns farm land all over the country thats is run by volunteer church members and those who whant to give back to the community. The harvest of these farms then gets distributed and donated. In 2024 the church as a whole donated 32million pounds of food. This food wasn't just donated in the United Staes but all over the world. A very big part of The Church of Jesus Christ is worshipping and creating a special bond with God. One of the places members of the church do this is in a temple. The Church of Jesus Christ currently has 17.5 million members all over the world with members in over 160 countries. Currently the church has built 208 temples worldwide. While all members have access to churchs not all members have access to temples due to distance. Because of this the Church of Jesus Christ along with its memebers are working to bring temples closer to all members so all mey have a chance to go and continue to build their own relationnship with God. Currently the church is in the proccess of constructing 170 more temples with more on the way.

The community I have chosen to share about is my church The church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The church was restored by the prophet Joseph Smith April 6th of 1830 in a small home in Fayette, New York among his friends and family. That church has since grown to over 17 million members worldwide. I have been blessed enough to have done missionary work for my church. for 2 years I lived in Uganda preaching the gospel and serving those in the community. The Church of Jesus Christ is here to help everyone come to Christ and feel his love for them and help everyone return to live in Gods presence. The church is made up of many people that come from all different backgrounds and cultures but the thing we all have in common is the same core beliefs.

Globalization has had a great effect on my community. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a worldwide church which means there are many cultures, languages, values, and social norms that make the church adapt to each situation. While the doctrine is the same everywhere the way it is taught is adapted to the circumstances. This also means things like books, videos, and talks need to be translated for all to be able to understand, along with the adaptation of teaching and learning styles.

Due to the fact that the Church of Jesus Christ is a worldwide church there are many members who handle different economic systems and different levels of wealth. In my community tithing plays an important role in how we handle these economic differences. Tithing is a practice that is taught in the Bible where an individual gives one tenth of their earnings to the Lord. This practice funds the construction and upkeep of church buildings, temples, and other needs. Tithing affects my local congregations because over time tithing funds have expanded to supporting individuals who are struggling financially. In my community an individual can meet with the local Bishop and receive the assistance needed. Because of the economic differences in each country the church has had to adapt to fulfil the needs of the members in each country. All of this has caused members of my community to have more compassion and support for the challenges each one of us struggle with.

As the community I have chosen to write about is a religious community, religion plays a very big role in how we adapt to social change. We believe our spiritual belief system helps us to find and accomplish a purposeful life. The first way religion has affected my community when relating to social change is what we put value on. In my community we are taught to value God and family of wealth and things that are considered worldly. Another way religion has affected my community is the teaching of "love thy neighbor as thyself" which influences how members of my community treat others. This includes individuals who don't share the same beliefs. While not every member is perfect at following this teaching most member do their best to treat everyone with love and kindness. Overall religion has helped my community to have strong values and to treat everyone with kindness.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holds education as a valuable asset. The church itself operates four major universities as well as church and gospel related classes. I personally was taught by my religious community that education leads to self reliance. I was also taught education helps individuals to make well informed decisions relating to life, politics, and just about any other situations. Education also encourages members to contribute to their other communities as well.

Personally I never thought that health, safety, and state law had an affect on my local church community. But a semirecent example of this would be the effect of the Covid 19 pandemic. Both country and state rules affected how members of a local congregation could organise and when they were allowed to organise. This also came with sanitary regulations as well. My local community went almost an entire year without meeting in person as a whole congregation. This led us to using technology to meet virtually as well as staying up to date on sanitation practices when we began to return to meeting in person. Other ways my community has been affected is training required by the state for certain leaders for things like medical emergencies. Another example would also be building codes and renovations to keep our church building in a good safe condition.

Members of my community take part in all types of social movements. The two movements that are most related to my community would be a redemptive movement and an alternative movement. Redemptive movements seek to create inner change or spiritual growth within an individual. My community helps each other as well as others who are willing to change and become more like Jesus Christ. Next my community could relate to an alternative movement as an alternative movement focuses on self improvement and attempts to change a person's beliefs and behaviors. This once again ties in with many members of my community seeking to become more like Jesus Christ. While my local church does not directly participate in major social movements, many individual members engage in movements based on their own personal beliefs. Those experiences shape both personal experiences and the culture of my community.

Religion plays a major role in the social change of my community as the community I chose to write about is my church. Religion has changed the way members in my community view and treat others. We are taught that we are all spiritual sons and daughters of God and we should treat everyone that way. While not all members are perfect at this practice it pushes members of my community to be kind, understanding, and inclusive of everyone.

The economy creates social change within my community just as much as any other influence. Members in my community come from different economic backgrounds and are in different economic situations. As a community that takes pride in helping those in need, these different economic situations have pushed us to be more prepared for a bad economy and economic hardship. By being prepared and financially stable ourselves as individuals that allows us to help each other when someone is truly struggling financially.

Globalization and global inequality plays a very important role in the social change of my community. My church is growing worldwide but many areas of the world don't have the same access to things such as technology and higher education like members in the United States do. I lived in Uganda for two years and I was able to see the church and its local leaders do what they could to bridge these gaps. We held church service in the local languages of the area and worked to provide access to college or other programs that build skills and knowledge.
