The a+a of live shows how living has become part of their daily lives. This shows how much their lives have changed. From luxury to not knowing if you will live or die tommorow. This could be related to the theme of ¨spend every moment as your last", because all the kids want to do is live. "You can save yourself. You can be anyone you want to be now." pg. 80. Trust is very important for Connor, Risa and Lev. Now that they trust each other they have survived a lot longer.

They said that he was an Unwind but his parents wanted him back, so they have been trying to put him back together ever since. When the Admiral took Emby he said that his last name was Dumphee. After that he said on pg. 241 "He allows himself a brief moment off satisfaction, glancing over at the smiling picture of his son Harlan, better known as Humphrey in modern folklore , but those who loved him know his real name.

The a+a of knife shows power. The person who possesses the knife has great power because nobody wants to "mess" with them. In this case, Roland possesses the knife, and nobody wanted to mess with him in the first place, except for Connor. Whoever has the courage to fight the one with power, shall regain power over all. They were talking about baseball games and were laughing. The nurse was also very calm too. This goes back to the fake happiness A+A because the surgeons probably told themselves that this was for the best and that the Unwinds were happier this way.  On page 292 the surgeons say 
"Did you see yesterdays game?"
"Heartbreaker."
"Splitting the corpus callosum."
"Nice technique."
"Well, Its not brain Surgery." Laughter all around.

The Unwinds never let their guard down even when they are very tired. On page 94 "Connors eyelids grow heavy, but he won't allow himself to fall asleep. They're not safe yet. They may never be, and he can't let his guard down now."
