We run from Monday - Thursday 9am - 3pm.

Each day we plan activities, visits and outings to meet the play and development needs of the young people we support.

Alongside our planned activities, we have lots of crafting, games and experiences planned for both indoor and outdoors (weather permitting).

Room Lead - Bruce

My name is Bruce and I’m one of the Room Leaders at The Yard’s Holiday Support at Oakland’s School. I’ve been working with The Yard for 6 years now. This really is the highlight of my year when a school holiday comes along and I get to see the smiley faces of the young people that attend our service. I am excited to work with our talented team of support workers and work alongside Nic to develop our service and deliver the best for our young people (having fun while doing it!).

Room Lead - Sarah

My name is Sarah. I have been working in holiday support at Oaklands in some form for 15 years. I really enjoy getting to know and support each young person who attends the holiday support. When I am not working in holiday support I am an Early Years Practitioner based in nursery. I love planning and implementing new activities, I really enjoy making All Activities as inclusive as possible. I look forward to seeing the young people attending Feb!

Room Lead - Ross - week 2

Ross has been working as a support worker and teaching assistant for the last twenty years, Working Fife, Edinburgh and London.

He is also a youth theatre leader and Lead Additional need coordinator at Edinburgh Youth theatre.

Ross is also a keen writer, writing plays for your performers and audiences.

My name is Kerry and I have worked at the Holiday Hub/Playscheme for the past few years. I also work as a staff nurse for 33 hours a week during term time at Oaklands school. I love working with the children and their families - it's a joy & a privilege.

Communication tools

If your child uses an electronic communication device please ensure this is charged and is available for use at Holiday Support.

We hold a wide range of Visual Symbols and timetables at Holiday Support, however if your child would benefit from specific symbols or pictures please supply these to ensure consistency in supportive strategies.

Appropriate Clothing

Scottish Weather is unpredictable and we ask (where possible) the young people come to Holiday Support ready for all weather play.

For October, we ask the child bring waterproof coverings for their body or wheelchair, a hat and warm clothes. Any outdoor periods are carefully considered against the medical needs of the young person

Water

If your child or young person drinks water orally, please provide a bottle or cup suitable for their individual use on a daily basis.

We are able to provide fresh water and washing/sterilising facilities as needed.

Lunch and snacks

Lunch and Snacks are not provided by The Yard during Holiday Support, therefore, please ensure your child has enough food with them for the day.

We ask any snacks or lunch, which your young person will orally digest, is provided at the correct texture.

We ask food is sent at the correct temperature where possible. We do not have the facilities to cook food from its raw form.

Gastro equipment

Please provide all the gastro feeds your child will require each day. Also the extension set and syringe to deliver bolus feeds/water need to be supplied in a clean, labelled container (tupperware or freezer bag is fine).

We supply sterile water for bolus feeds and flushes.

If there is any variation to the school prescription of feed for your child (which we follow) please provide clear, written and signed instructions.

If your child's feed is delivered through a pump please ensure the pump is fully charged each morning and/or provide the charger plug with the pump.

Personal Care

Please ensure your child arrives at Holiday Support with an adequate supply of Pads and wipes for their session. These can be sent in at the beginning of the week or daily.

We are asked by the school not to use the supplies held for the children who attend Oaklands.

Medication

It is imperative we are able to fully support your child's medical needs whilst at Holiday Support. Qualified Nurses will administer all medication within our service at Oaklands School.

We ask parents/carers fill in a medication form for their child(ren) and provide all medicine which is required to be administered during the hours of 9am-3pm.

Medication provided must be in its original box with the patient leaflet inside and the prescription information must match the information on the form provided.

Any emergency medication for Epilepsy must be provided, alongside the child's Emergency Plan.

We do not have the facilities to hold medication overnight therefore medication will be return to you daily.

Absences

Prompt absence reporting allows us to offer another family support for a respite space.

Collection/drop off

No Transport has been provided for February by City of Edinburgh Council for all young people.

Please notify us if your child is being collected by a different service or adult e.g respite/outreach/grandparent/family friend). This ensures your child is safely collected by an authorised adult and shared transport is not held up for the others using the service.

Daily Diary

Each day your young person will bring home a diary with information about their day, written by their Support Worker or Room Lead. This information will typically include activities/experiences, outings and lunch comments (where applicable).

There is room on the sheet to leave any communication for your child's one to one worker to support needs/likes, thoughts or comments.

Medication Form

All children/young people who require medication to be administered during our Holiday Support hours must attend with a completed Medication form.

These forms are emailed out to families in advance of each Holiday Period and must be returned by the start of your child's attendance.

All information must be accurate and match prescription labels.

Care Plans

The Care Inspectorate requires registered services to update and review Young People's Care Plan's every six months (as a minimum).

Before each and every Holiday Support Period, Frances, our Deputy Manager, contacts each child's teacher and school to gain an insight into any key areas of development in the young person's care and play needs.

As we work collaboratively with schools, they are able to supply us with Moving and Handling and Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Plans and provide us with various pieces of equipment to fully support your child.

Every 6 months we will contact you as the parent/carer of the young person and ask you review the information we hold. If you would like to update us on any information before or after the review period, please contact frances@theyardscotland.org.uk.

The next date for Care Plan review is March 2025.
