The Butter Battle Book:

There was a wall that separated two parts of Germany, which prevented the West German “fascists” from entering the East side of Germany which was controlled by the communists.  Likewise in the book, there was a wall that separated the Yooks, who buttered their bread rightside up, from the Zooks who buttered their bread upside down.

When the wall was first built there were no riots, but as time went on people tried to cross and riots began, Like in the beginning of the book no one came to the wall, but one random day the Zook came with a slingshot to start a riot

There was a conflict at the wall between an East German officer and an West German officer, just like all the conflicts of the Zooks and the Yooks

Both the story and the cold war had nicknames for their weapon creating projects

in the story, the zooks knew of the yooks inventions and weapons without the yooks knowing. Stalin knew of the manhattan project long before we knew he was, he even knew before truman the vice president

The soviets and the zooks both were also making nuclear weapons without the us or yooks knowing of it 

Both the cold war and the butter battle ended in a draw, no side with a clear victory and no mass destruction weapons being used

Nuclear Arms Race vs. Dr Seuss Story

The Nuclear Arms Race was a competition between the United States and the Soviet Union. Both nations developed new weapons to use against each other. This is the same way the Yooks and the Zooks competed against each other. Both the United States and the Soviet Union were developing similar weapons at the same time just like the Yooks and the Zooks were designing similar weapons in the Dr.Seuss story. 

"the Soviets were one step ahead, launching the first man into space in April 1961”. The Zooks were usually one step ahead of the Yooks

American policy was containment much like the wall that seperated the zooks and the yooks.

The war between the zooks and the yooks was similar to the cold war because there was an escalation in threats but no action was actually taken.

The US built a hydrogen bomb and the Soviets followed suit with one of their own just like the yooks made one and then the zooks had one

The Soviets launched Sputnik and not too long afterwards the U.S. launched their own satellite known as Explorer 1 just like the zooks and the yooks competed with each other

The scare of nuclear war had schools and people practicing drills and making fallout shelters just like the yooks hole they made to hide everyone while the grandpa went to drop the bomb

When the yooks went and got a new weapon and the zooks did too it was like the arms race because their weapons kept getting bigger and bigger.

Neither wanted to be the first to drop the bomb. 

They kept flexing about doing stuff but none of them really did anything to 

harm the other side. (brinkmanship)

Spies helped opposing side to create their weapons

Though the bombings of Japan remain the only wartime use of nuclear weapons, since 1945 the threat of nuclear war has loomed over international conflicts, promising a level of "prompt and utter destruction" never before seen in the world.

People now live in fear

Two Sides: United States and Soviet Union | Two Sides: Yooks and the Zooks

During the Cold War, the Arms race between America and Soviet Union created many new gadgets that help either side that had it. 

During the Butter Battle War, between Zooks and Yooks, also created many new gadgets that helped either side that had it. 

The conflict in “The Butter Battle Book” it was how both side spread butter on their bread. During the conflict of the Cold War it was a conflict between how each sides runs their governments. 

Likes the Yooks and the Zooks both sides hated each other. The Americans were worried about communism while the Yooks were concerned about how the other side does something different then them. The Soviet Union hated America hated/disliked America because they refused to treat the USSR as a real member of the international Union. 

During the actual Cold War the wall was built as a deterrence that kept enemies from entering the east side of Berlin. Once again the wall in the butter battle book it was also kept the Yooks and the Zooks for entering each other sides.  

Both sides also had enemies one the other sides to figure out what each sides was doing and create a better weapon that could eliminate and destroy the other side. 

The United States and the Soviet Union's relationship is similar to the zooks and the yooks. 

They both have a tense relationship and hate each other while trying to make better weapons to destroy each other.
