SAOR Screening and Brief Intervention for Problem Alcohol and Substance Use (2017)¹ is a step-by-step guide for practice developed in response to problem alcohol and other drug use. The model can be used in a wide variety of settings, including community, statutory, voluntary, justice and education services. By following this model, many professionals and volunteers have been given the confidence and competence to screen for problem alcohol and drug use and either engage in a brief intervention or refer to specialist services if necessary.

SAOR training is delivered in a 90 minute eLearning module followed by a 1-day skills based workshop delivered live online. SAOR training is FREE.

Grief is a natural response to the death of someone close. It is a deeply personal experience that varies widely from person to person. A person’s experience of grief is influenced by many things, such as the relationship with the deceased, the circumstances of their death, and a person’s support system, among many other factors. Many people, although painful, will cope with loss with support from their family and friends. For lots of different reasons, some will need additional support to cope from people outside their social network. Understanding grief and learning how to navigate it can be helpful not only for those directly experiencing loss but also for those supporting them. National Grief Awareness Week 2025 is taking place 27 January - 02 February. Through National Grief Awareness Week, we hope to encourage a more open, supportive, and understanding approach to grief—helping both the bereaved and those around them navigate this challenging part of life with greater empathy. "Supporting youth organisations and youth workers for the Identification and Prevention of Youth Gaming Disorder (gaMINg DiSordEr youTh)"

The MINDSET policy workshops will specifically focus on:
• Brainstorming and discussing policies to prevent gaming disorders among young people.
• Identifying actionable policies to enhance the early identification of gaming disorder.
• Building a roadmap for implementing these policies, with input from youth organisations, policymakers, and NGOs.

 
These workshops aim to collect concrete and practical policy recommendations that will contribute to the Policy Recommendations Paper as part of the MINDSET project deliverables. 

This policy workshop will be hosted every Wednesday in March (5th, 12th, 19th and 26th) from 10am to 10:30 am.

Session 1: Building Empathy in Children & Young People (2nd September)

Learn how to foster empathy in young people, helping them understand and connect with others who may have different needs, backgrounds, or behaviours — especially during key transition periods like returning to school.

Session 2: Neurodiversity and Sensory Profiles: Inclusive Approaches to Support (9th September)

Gain practical insights into supporting neurodiverse young people, with a focus on sensory processing differences and creating more inclusive environments.

Session 3: Adolescent Anxiety: Understanding, Identifying, and Responding (23rd September)

Explore the causes and signs of adolescent anxiety — including exam stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and friendship issues — and discover practical tools including somatic techniques and psychoeducation.

Session 4: Understanding Behaviour Through the Lens of Intergenerational Trauma (1st October)

Unpack how trauma can be passed through generations and how it shapes identity and behaviour in young people. Learn how to support them with empathy and trauma-informed approaches, grounded in current research.

This course consists of four sessions, and it is important that attendees participate in all four. Each session builds on the previous one, and together they form a complete learning experience. Only participants who attend all sessions will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Completion.

What does the session cover?

This session will explore:

• Understanding anger as a natural emotional response in children and young people

• The underlying causes of anger, including stress, trauma, unmet needs, and environmental factors

• Recognising early signs of emotional distress or dysregulation

• Practical strategies for de-escalation and emotional regulation

• Supporting young people to build self-awareness, emotional literacy, and resilience

• Creating environments that promote connection, trust, and positive behaviour
