Example of linguistic barrier in class - A student who is not fluent in the classroom's language struggles to understand the teacher's explanation. For example, in an English-medium science class, a student who primarily speaks Spanish finds it difficult to grasp technical terms like "photosynthesis" and "chlorophyll," leading to confusion and difficulty participating in discussions.

Overcome it - Overcoming linguistic barriers in a language classroom requires strategies that can make communication smoother and more inclusive for all students. Here are some methods that may help:

Use Simple Language: Start by simplifying your language. Use clear, short sentences and avoid complex vocabulary. This helps A2-level learners grasp the message more easily.

Visual Aids: Incorporate images, diagrams, and charts to support verbal explanations. Visuals provide context and make abstract concepts easier to understand.

Check Understanding Frequently: Use techniques like concept checking questions (CCQs) to confirm that students have understood the material. For example, instead of asking "Do you understand?" ask more specific questions related to the lesson.

Encourage Peer Interaction: Pair students with different language proficiency levels so they can help each other. This peer-to-peer support can be a valuable learning tool.

Use Gestures and Body Language: Non-verbal communication can go a long way in helping students understand. Use gestures, facial expressions, and actions to convey meaning.
