One of my favorite time periods in history is the “Elizabethan Era”. It is named after Queen Elizabeth the First and took place in the years 1558-1603. This time is also known as the “Golden Era” in English history. Queen Elizabeth was the daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. King Henry had a horrible temper, however; he had Anne beheaded when Elizabeth was very young because she did not have a son. King Henry did not treat Elizabeth well until her little brother, Prince Edward, was born a few years later by his third wife.

After King Henry died, Prince Edward became king but died young, so Elizabeth's older sister Mary became queen. Mary loved Elizabeth but did not trust her because they did not have the same religion. Eventually, Queen Mary died and made Elizabeth the queen after her. Queen Elizabeth was extremely powerful and smart, defeating the most powerful navy in the world from Spain in battle. She refused to get married because she thought she could rule her country on her own, without a "king". And she was right: Queen Elizabeth became one of the most powerful and influential women in the history of the world.

I chose Queen Elizabeth for my collage because she is a very inspirational person. She lost her mother at a young age and was treated badly because of that. She rose above the people who thought she was unimportant to become one of the greatest Queens in English and world history. She shocked the world by (1) refusing to marry despite the norms of that time (which said she needed a husband just because she was a woman), and (2) becoming an exceptional ruler in her own right. She faced her challenges head-on and was not afraid of anything.
