The American public sided with President Dwight D. Eisenhower. They agreed with his actions and choices during the beginning of the Vietnam War. However, others weren’t on the same boat. Some people stood against his ideas, but nothing was done about it or said. As the war progressed forward, truth and lies were exposed to the public, in which opposition of the Vietnam war grew enormously. Because of this the American people began to feel unsure about the government, and their trust started to slip away. The military and government were in need of more troops, but because the people didn’t fully trust the government and saw the side of the troops where they destroyed and killed everything, the volunteering and number of troops decreased.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower served as president of the United States from 1953 all the way to 1961. President Eisenhower played a significant role in the Vietnam War. In 1954, Eisenhower refused to send the United States into another conflict right after the Korean War. However, he believed in the domino theory. This meant that he believed if a country fell to communism, so would other governments as well, resulting in communism spreading everywhere. Therefore, Eisenhower stepped up. He supplied Diem and W. Vietnam with money, weapons, and military advisors from 1955-1960. Almost $2 billion was sent to help, in which the military advisors increased up to about 1,000. He continued to help the French against Ho Chi Minh. Eisenhower continued most of the New Deal and Fair Deal programs within his presidency. Because of this, it helped with the Social Security program, increased the minimum wage, developed the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, and finally helped contribute to the creation of the Interstate Highway System. The foreign policy under Eisenhower, called the Eisenhower Doctrine, allowed all of the Middle Eastern countries to request assistance from the american economy.

During and after the Vietnam war, there were negative effects that warfare had on the environment. Vegetation and agriculture decreased enormously, while the U.S. economy was damaged significantly. The bombing and destroying of cities, did loads of damage to people’s land, resulting in deforestation. Furthermore, the people refused to pay taxes that would aid the war expenses, causing the U.S. economy to go downhill fast.

The war had an impact on the U.S. culture. It first impacted music by allowing the American troops to access music and soundtracks during and throughout the war. They did by so by using the radio, portable players, etc.. In addition, music was affected by the Vietnam war because as people's opinions were being changed, more anti-war songs were being produced. Furthermore, because the military had taken in so much money to help aid the French and their supplies, defense spending resulted in the education funding to be limited. During this war the art also expanded a lot, there was now video, public performances. The videos allowed the people back at home to become more educated on the war, which caused outrage.

During President Dwight D. Eisenhower's presidency, a lot of damage was done to the economy of the United States and Vietnam. The Vietnam War cost around $1 trillion, in which was $111 billion in military operations and $28.5 billion to help South Vietnam. The Vietnam veteran costs were much higher than all of the other wars due to the mental issues that were developed during and after the war. The United States paid $22 billion a year in war compensations for Vietnam Veterans and their families.

For example, the broadcasting and television that displayed events of the war were introduced. This new way of showing the war, allowed the people to witness the truth behind the fighting and the Vietnam war. Because of this, people's opinions changed and their trust for the government was eventually lost. In addition, nuclear weapons and artillery played a role in the Vietnam war.
