He lived in North Holland, and when the Germans occupied Holland Johannes took a train to the only Jewish family he knew and offered them a hiding spot on his farm. Through the Mogendorffs he found more Jews and offered them the hiding spot too. He created a rescue network that housed around 70 Jewish people. He operated without organizational support for one and a half years. In 1942 the farm was raided and 11 Jews were deported. Johannes Father went to Amstelveenseweg prison in Amsterdam and only had a 10 week sentence if he promised to not hide anymore Jews. He couldn't promise. Another raid occured and found the rest of the people on the farm. Although Hannes and Klaasje Bogaard were fugitives themselves, they survived the war. During the course of the occupation Hannes helped around 200 Jews survive.

Angel offered to give Jews of Spanish origin Spanish passports. Hungarian authorities gave him the OK to issue Spanish passports to 200 Jews, but he secretively changed that figure to 200 families. He also set up special apartment buildings with Spanish flags, marking these buildings as part of the Spanish Legation and therefore protected, to house Jews because no one would suspect that there are Jews in there. Since those Jews staying in the “Spanish Houses” were forbidden from leaving the buildings, he also provided them with food and other necessities. Throughout Angels tie he saved about 5,000 Jews and died in 1980.

Irena Sendler was a polish humanitarian and social worker. She had rescued 2,500 Jewish children in Poland. Sendler started offering Jews shelter and food as soon as the Germans invaded Warsaw which was in 1939. After the Warsaw ghetto was created, in 1940, she had started saving orphan children. She and some of her helpers made over 3,000 false documents to help Jewish families. Her and her helpers used five ways to smuggle children out of the Ghetto. The first way was that she used an ambulance and the children would be snuck out on the stretcher. Another way was that they would escape through a courthouse that had a secret underground entrance in it. They also snuck children using sewer pipes or other secret underground passages. She and her helpers used a trolley to sneak out children in sacks, in a trunk, or a suitcase. Also, if a child pretended to be sick or the child would have actually been sick, they could legally remove them from the ghetto with the ambulance.
