The reasons for being on the road may vary but ultimately they all have the reason of overcoming something/change in common. The travel plays an important part in that matter and the destination might not even be named.

      --> trying to achieve something that has an affect

      --> negative ending

      --> plottwist importance


    Hard to define, but coming to the conclusion, that plot points might be the most important indicator for defining a form of road movie.
