I have a cousin who is intelligent, kind, and full of knowledge. When I was in elementary school, I admire him because of his knowledge, and he was going to an Engineering school. That was inspired me to become an Engineer. Then since I was in elementary school, I decided I want to go into the same university as him. In the 5th grade my mother had to go away for a couple weeks after the death of her father. The assistant teacher took extra time out of her days in the morning to do me and my sister's hair as my dad didn't know how. It was kind and comforting gesture in such a difficult time.

A bright spot from my childhood would have to reading with my kindergarten teacher, Ms.Ordaz. She knew that I loved to read and she always had a book ready for me to read; as soon as I put one down she had the next ready. My favorite day of the week would be when she made it a reading day. I immediately thought of when my dad taught me to surf. He is definitely not a surfer but he brought me out every day and would hold my board so I could stand and would push me on the waves until I was able to paddle myself. Struggled to think of just one memory until Mariana spoke about her grandma. My grandmother used to get up with me at 3/4 in the morning when I had to study and make me some tea or coffee and some toast and then sit with me(fall asleep on the couch) while I studied. She was really an amazing woman and her love and love for taking care of people really inspire me.

Bright Spot: I got very inspired by my second grade teacher who was a big disciplinarian and at the same time had the unique ability to work with each student at their individual level in the traditional school setting. She emphasized a lot on the handwriting, grammar and math. This allowed us to see and sometimes participate in the teaching-learning process from the inside. I started "teaching" younger children when I was about 12 just to help out. Growing up I wasn´t a fan of school or anything like that, so my mum would ask me to write letters to my grandparents and family in Ireland. I was raised by her and she taught me how to become independent, kind and gave me a purpose in life. I was what you called a "challenging child" who needed love and purpose to grow. She helped me become who I am today by first inculcating in me the love for plants. She told me to give to the plants all the love that I wanted from others.( father, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc, .) she gave me so much love that I wanted to be a better child just for her. I started to do everything that I knew she will be please with.  When my grandma realized that she redirected my behavior to focus on myself and do everything for myself. She passed away when I was pregnant with my first child who is actually her portrait.
