I’m a first-generation Chicana and college student, queer, and fronteriza, born/raised in South San Diego, along the U.S.-Mexico border. I’ve lived my life navigating two languages, cultures, and nations. My parents are Mexican immigrants that came to the U.S. with only a 7th and 3rd grade level of education for better life opportunities. I was raised in a low-income household, and English is my second language. Currently, I hold an A.A. in Criminal Justice, a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Law and Society, and a Masters in Latin American Studies. My plan is to return to school for a Ph.D.

My name is Veronica Garcia I live spent time with my family. I was born in Sonora Mexico and  I came tho USA when I was 21 years old not knowing English. I joined to the military  at the age of 24  it was a  hard experience because of the language but I overcome it.  I have three kids and my 6 years old daughter was born Down Syndrome . She is a blessing for our family and open the doors for a new world to us.  I found myself advocating and fighting for her rights . Her rights of a meaningful  inclusive education  and services that she need to become a successful person. I will never give up.   I found the writing center a very beneficial tool to help me with my English and writing.  This new technology is amazing for me because after 9 years of break from school  I am able to return and uses this important  academic tools.  I would like to finish a Associate In Human Development and transfer to become a  Behavioral Specialist  with the experience that I have as parent will help  professionally.  I also want to help other families that have kids with special needs.

Growing up I would travel to Mexico usually being Oaxaca or Guanajuato because that's where my parents are from, and sometimes we'd go to other states as well. Now that I'm older and able to truly value the experience of traveling to a different country, my family and I wanted to go somewhere new to try new foods and learn about different cultures. Because of COVID, and now monkeypox, I haven't been able to travel. When I'm not in school I'm likely to be at home watching Netflix or scrolling through TikTok. I like going shopping and going to restaurants and trying new foods. Recently I've been trying to pick up on new hobbies instead of going on my phone hahaha. I've started learning how to cook the foods I grew up eating, gardening my own fruits and veggies, practicing yoga, and meditation. My name is Daisy Mendoza and my pronouns are she/her. The picture I decided to upload was picture of my parents. It's a throwback picture but it means a lot to me. They are very important to me and I would like to make them proud. Not only for them but for myself as well. I believe we are all capable of achieving what we set our goals to be. My major is Psychology. I'm going to be transferring by the end of this semester to Cal Sate San Marcos. My career goal would be to a psychiatric nurse. I would like to help patient with their mental illness. Mental illness has always been interesting to me and I would like to learn more about them. Hi everyone! My name is Dalila Moedano. My pronouns are she/her/hers. The photo I have chosen above is of me and my handsome four year old son. I’m a single mom to this amazing, adventurous, and creative boy. This photo shows us visiting family in Maui, HI this past summer. I chose it because I love to travel with my son and this shows us having a nice time on our trip. I’m in my last year here at MiraCosta college. I’m beginning the process of applying to universities to transfer to next fall. My long term career goal is to major in speech language pathology and become a speech therapist. I am 18 years old and this is my 2nd year here in MiraCosta. I've been living here for the past 14 years because when I was around 4 I migrated here from Mexico to get a better education for my brothers and I. My parents thought that was the best idea. For my long term goals I really wish to just finish my education and to have a decent career, I feel that it is in some way my duty to my parents and all of the struggles they have endured just to be in this country so that we ( my brothers and I) could have a better life and well basically a better everything. Im Jasmine. I know we do have another Jasmine in our class, so if it helps I also go by the names of "Jas", "Jay", or "JJ". 
As I said in the video the picture I posted above is of myself dancing in one of the roles as "Juana Gallo" (huan-uh gah-yo). I've been dancing for almost 10 years, with the Tierra Caliente Academy of Arts in Vista. We do have a second show coming up on Friday, October 28th in Oceanside and I would love to extend the invitation to all of you. Ill give Profe a flyer to share to with you all.
I am the youngest out of 3 sibling, my mom is from a small pueblo (town) called Cuanajo in Michoacán, Mexico. Other than hiking with my family, Mexico is one of the places I love to go. As my duty of "favorite grandchild" (LOL probably not) visiting Grandma is a MUST!! Being there is such a magical place for me, being able to talk to all the vecinas (neighbors) is amazing everyone knows each other. From traveling to Mexico to visit my Grandma I was able to pick up a little of the Purepecha language (im still a beginner), which is one of the indigenous languages spoken in Michoacán.

Hi, I am in my second year of college. I am 19 years old and the youngest of three. Majoring in Psychology with a minor in Child Development. My career goal is to become a therapist for ptsd victims and children. During my free time I like to watch tv. I know it sounds boring but I work 2 jobs and am a full-time student, so most of the time that's all the energy I have. When I do make plans with friends I like to eat out. When I do find myself with a lot of time on my hands, which isn't often, I will go on walks with my dog, garden, or draw. The most important tool I found important is the writing center.
