Spanish 1 ~ Reflection

First of all, this course taught me a lot about similarities and differences between the Spanish and English Languages. I loved learning things in Spanish and about
Costa Rican culture, because each added a new level of expression for me. Spanish speakers are very enthusiastic, as is the Costa Rican culture. Holidays and aspects of everyday life are always exciting to ticos y ticas. A difference I noticed between the languages was the fact that everything is either plural or singular. For example, in English we don't say 'thes greens books' we just say 'the green books'. In Spanish however, it all must be plural to match the word books. "Los libros verdes". Another big difference is the use of gender for different words using 'a' or 'o'(sometimes they can be irregular too). A similarity between the languages is that some words have similar or the same origins, so they can sound similar or be spelled the same way. An example of this is the English word 'version'. In Spanish it is spelled the same way, just with an accent over the 'o'. If I were to continue to study Spanish, I would love to learn more about word origins like this, and where these words could have originated. This course was definitely an interesting way to learn Spanish. In a way, it encouraged me to work alone and learn the language pretty independently with the materials provided. The online aspect was sometimes difficult, because there were some days where I wasn't speaking Spanish at all. I would have liked to do group work and speak to peers in Spanish. The vocabulary lists were definitely helpful. I was able to practice the terms and their meanings. My instructor was very helpful because he always had new lessons posted to the announcements page.
