Think about the anti-environmentalism arguments we covered earlier this week. How would do they contrast against the videos and the toolkit?

Anti-environmentalists will say that the growth of our species and global warming are not a threat, and all of the earth's natural resources are plentiful, as seen in the videos that belief is completely false. The many small islands that are inhabited by people around Australia (Oceania) are starting to be submerged by water. The place that those people call home will cease to exist in a couple of years because of the global rise in temperatures. It is because of our use of earth’s natural resources and our overuse of things such as fossil fuels that is causing climate change. The ideas and beliefs of anti-environmentalists are the complete opposite of what is happening in actuality.

The anti-environmental videos arguments can be proven wrong by the video and articles we read today. I found it interesting and very educational, since I wasn’t aware of the Climate disaster in Palestine. Only thing I was aware or is that there aren’t even anymore olive trees in the occupied by Israel areas… the video we saw on Bangladesh shows clearly inequality too, the speaker mentions rich people being able to afford living on high/safe ground, while poor people are experiencing floods and hurricanes from beginning to the end. Going back to Palestine, I found some of these following arguments the most compelling: Palestinians are still being oppressed and segregated for their skin color. Palestinians are colonized and withheld. Palestinians are oppressed and not only, the racism is very deep rooted throughout history. It was nice and I felt grateful to see that other nations are doing acts in support of Palestine. This topic reminded me of the movie “La rage” because I honestly think that this information should bring anger towards the oppressors by any readers.

Liya Kazakova

MELODY BARRETT - The toolkit talks a lot about double standard, talking about how when Palestinians do something "wrong" they are reprimanded to the highest extent. But when Israel does the same thing and to an even bigger extent, people turn a blind eye. An example of this is how the toolkit refers to the demolition of Palestinian buildings due to the lack of permits. The reasoning the Palestinians have a lack of building permits is because of the Israeli Army Civil Administration denies 99.1% of building permits. The fact that it has become harder for Palestinians to get building permits, they are unable to build certain infrastructure that helps clean and collect water. These living conditions make it more likely for people to move out of these areas. Just like in the video we watched about climate refugees they are being displaced because of how the more powerful nations treat the environment, leading to their awful living conditions. Compared to the slides and the argument of how there should be a privatization of certain land is countered in the videos and the toolkit. This could cause the living situations to be worse for the populations affected. Like in the video in the segment talking about the oysters, the way the government wants to handle the climate crisis still leads to disastrous problems.

Enrique Soler, People around the world are being affected by the consequences of climate change. One of those places is Palestine. The people of Palestine are being dealing with a lot of the cons from climate change and unfortunately many systems are working against them having environmental justice. Supporter of anti-environmentalism might believe that global warming isn't a big deal, and even say that the cons of earth's natural resources (fossil fuels) isn't bad. Many small islands are being submerged or slowing being submerged by water. This will cause people to flee their homes and go somewhere else due to the rising temperatures globally (the cause of sea levels rising). It's the constant used of fossil fuels and other nonrenewable resources that are increasing the cons of climate change. So, the beliefs of anti-environmentalists are completely opposite to some people who want this to change. Until something happens, many people's lives will be ruin and the earth will slowing be unhabitable.

The anti-environmentalists beliefs are completely false when we actually look at what is quite happening before our eyes. Deforestation is a very common thing nowadays and there are even islands that are being submerged due to global warming. One example that can be shown is Bangladesh which has suffered from both deforestation and global warming. "Bangladesh has one of the highest rates of deforestation in South Asia, losing 17.8 kha of natural forest in 2023." This can lead to climate change and many other things. On top of this Bangladesh has also suffered from global warming as one of the islands of Bangladesh is slowly being submerged. This is only one of the many countries that are experiencing global consequences and stopping this now is crucial for not just humanity but all of life.

Nishat Rabab

Anti-environmentalism refers to beliefs that opposes the efforts aimed to protect or preserve the environment. It is often stemmed from political, economic and cultural perspectives. However, it is often due to greed. By demolishing rainforests and lands, not only does it provide more agricultural jobs, it leads to mass production of agricultural crops which helps the economy. However, the videos and toolkit show the effects of anti-environmentalism hinder the livelihood of minorities and indigenous groups. Islands that inhabit people are slowly sinking, because of global warming. Countries such as Bangladesh have been hit the hardest in global warming. The nation is known for its abundance of lush green lands and its immense garments industry. However, due to pollution and low-lying typography, Bangladesh has experienced an increased frequency and intensity of natural disasters and rising sea levels. This has resulted to floods, droughts, and threatening food security and livelihoods of millions who rely on agriculture.

The first time I heard of Israeli colonization in Palestine was through the olive trees; Israeli authorities have uprooted nearly 800,000 Palestinian olive trees, indicating colonialism through the environment.

SALINA ALI

Environmental protection can be subjected to industrial expansion or economic interests in policies or actions that are considered anti-environmentalism. This kind of thinking usually ends in pollution, the overuse of natural resources, and disregard for the effects on the environment. Instead of being seen as vital safeguards for the health of the earth, it frequently regards environmental rules as barriers to economic expansion.

The videos and toolkit collide with the overall idea in the sense that there are other points in which the Palestinian struggle against colonialism and environmental issues cross. Indigenous peoples' land and resources have historically been exploited by colonial actions which usually resulted in environmental devastation. The Israeli occupation of Palestine has led to several environmental impacts, including the destruction of olive groves, pollution from industrial colonies, diversion of water resources, and vandalism of land.

The toolkit talks about the basic information and beginnings of the palestinian dark age. Anti-enviromentalism arguments for privatizing the local vegetation continues in the colony as a push to expand industry. It's hard to organize a meaningful resistance against enviromental exploitation when the same left leanings towards enviromentalism can be oppressed as also having the same members that subscribe to palestinian sympathy or even liberation.

Alexcia Bennett

The anti-environmentalism arguments bring up “some”valid concerns about economic impacts and fairness, the need for sustainable and equitable solutions remains paramount. Effective environmental advocacy must address these concerns through inclusive policies that balance economic growth, social justice, and environmental protection. Themes of sustainability, justice, cooperation, and scientific literacy are central to creating a cohesive and comprehensive approach to environmental issues. Environmental advocacy materials often highlight the long-term economic benefits of sustainable practices, such as job creation in renewable energy sectors and the reduced costs of environmental degradation.
