When I started the course I had a rough idea of what to do, at some point during the rehearsal process Anka tasked us to do a mind map of who we are at the core as an artist, After having considered what I have previously done, I saw so many things, I have written scripts in the past, directed projects, helped lighting engineers to set up the process, helped with music and of course acted. This simple exercise made me realize that its so easy to forget who you are and what you did, that's why its good to remind yourself form time to time.

Filming of the 1st commercial (Task)

Today was very fun and productive, I was able to communicate and compromise with the actors in my group, we all had such different ideas, but because we were all mature and patient we were always able to find common ground and spark new ideas, which eventually brought us to a satire short scene that includes the fundamentals of teamworking, communicating and working together.

Today we discussed amongst the group, Fardos, Ester, Me and Tengyunfei, and we decided on a concept(filming set sketch), we also decided to film it at the end of the day so that we have more time for editing.

In this session we talked about montaging and three other movement elements from Jacques Lecoq technique, we were taught a routine then from there we were told to create our own so that we could show our understanding, the routine needed 3 elements, the preparation, the start and the end.

Rehearsal notes and feedback from Instructors

there is 1 week left and we will have to perform, so in the meantime, we started doing more rehearsals and kept hitting a wall, I thought that maybe we over-rehearsed it which took the enthusiasm out of the scene, so we decided to ask for feedback and found out that we didn't have enough interactions and some of us didn't fully commit to the lines because our way of speaking became mechanical, so it felt like we were just saying lines without any subtext

Phoebe's Exercise 3

Today we learned the importance of the posture and how it can affect the way we breathe and speak, at the end we were encouraged to pair up and grab a foam noodle, one person had to control the noodle and the other had to copy the noodle's movements to the best of their abilities, this way they would learn about their spine's capabilities and limits

Stage presence exercise

Today was so interesting and eye opening, in the beginning of the class we discussed the importance of warm-ups so that the body can be comfortable and ready to be used, then we started discussing about what pulls the audiences focus on stage, Anka said that a good actor will be able to attract the audiences attention as soon as they take the first step on stage, their "presence" is what pulls the audience in.

After having practiced the exercise I realized that it was much harder than I thought.

Commedia Dell Arte's Efforts

Today was so strange and fun, we started as usual with the warm-up and then Anka started demonstrating Commedia Dell Arte's Janni, a playful and childish character that is led by it's desires, she showed all of that through her unique movement and her playful gibberish and tone of voice.

There was tension in the class in the beginning because nobody wanted to offer to demonstrated the character so Anka took the initiative and demonstrated with full commitment which put some people at ease, then they were able to do it, then others joined in and before the end everyone had a go.

Posture and breathe control

Today I thought that Phoebe and Jeni's lessons have crossed over because we discussed the importance of posture and even did an exercise where you need to have your back straight and speak, then slowly bend down and speak.

During the Exercise I have noticed that my voice was being held back and my breath was running out quickly, after having finished the lesson, my diaphragm was a bit sore, when I was speed walking home I noticed that I was also running out of breath quickly, which made me realize the importance of warm-ups and cooldowns as well as the position of the spine and the comfort in your body.
