I am developing international-mindedness in my students by introducing them to different cultures as much as possible. It can be done by inviting a guest speaker to have interaction with them, watching movies and reading books about different cultures to be followed by discussion session, introducing them to some local cultural activities (since most of the students are foreigners and I think it is good to experience some local cultural activities).

I try to put some cultural elements of the language we learn into the lesson. For example, we are learning Bahasa Indonesia, I would introduce them a bit about their culture of addressing older people differently from those who are at the same age or younger. Something like that.

Firstly I would look at the unit that is going to be taught, I am setting the learning outcome and else, then I think about which learner profile that might be possible to be put in the unit. After that I would set up some activities that enabled the students to build the learner profile that I set. For example, the unit is related to How the world works, I probably will choose inquirers and open-minded as the main focus. I would prepare the learning that supports these profiles. Bit by bit, the rest of the learners profile would be included in the other units.

Lucky me, in my school there is an additional but compulsory program from our local government that introduces students to local culture and it is called Indonesian Studies. Currently I am teaching this subject. In this program, the students are learning about local culture and the topics are designed to be related to or supporting the Unit of the class. For example, when we were learning about How the World Works, we focused on human-made system organization and we introduced the students to one of the local organisations.  The local organisations are working in the fields that related to global issues such as animal protection, biodiversity, and else.
