In Australia on the 26 of January ever year, Australia day is celebrated. Many people believe that this date should be changed because this is when the English people came to Australia. This date should change because it is when the first fleet came to Australia with ships landing in Australia essential cultural cargo. Australia would not at all be like it is today if the first fleet didn't land in Australia in 1788 on the 26 January. So Australia day should not be changed and should stay as the 26 of January.

 The Australia day date should change because it is hurting a lot of our community, such as the first nation people and many non-indigenous people. On the 26th January, the first fleet arrived to Sydney cove. The British settlers took the Indigenous peoples land, children and culture right off them. Some indigenous people speak from experience such as Djinyini Gondarrae which states that, "The land is my mother. Like a human mother, the land gives us protection, enjoyment and provides our needs economic, social and religious. We have a human relationship with the land: Mother, daughter, son. When the land is taken from us or destroyed, we feel hurt because we belong to the land and we are part of it." This is telling the world that when the British people came they not only took their land, but they took a part of them away. This is the reason why this date should be changed and not taken away completely.

There has been much debate on whether Australia Day should change, which it should for the better.

T(Topic) E(Explanation) E(Evidence) L(Link):

The Australian Government should change Australia Day because of the celebration murder and deaths meaning towards the Indigenous Australians. This is because it is celebrating the day many Indigenous Australians died in battle, while having their homes taken from them by the First Settlers. This happened on the 26th of January, now known as Australia Day. While Australia Day can be a momentous and fun time for many, but can also be a detrimental and dour time for many of celebrating the land and life's taken of their Ancestors. This was shown through a study which said 28% of Australians believe that Australia Day should be moved. 3% of Australia's population is made up of Indigenous Australians and another 25% believe that it should be moved. That means 1/4 of the Australian non-indigenous populations say that Australia Day should be moved. Changing the date of Australia Day will not only signify a change within the recognition of Indigenous Australians, but also show deep respect for how they have put up with this hardship and how we can make things right (to the best of our abilities). Therefore, we should change the date of Australia Day to stop celebrating the murder and deaths of Indigenous Australians that day.

We should change the Day we celebrate Australia day because then everyone is happy, and we can get together peacefully and happily with no problems occurring. Many people from all over Australia are protesting asking for a change to the date of Australia day so that everyone is happy, if everyone is not happy with this day since instead of it being a day of celebration it is a day of death, a day of loss of land, loss of culture and a loss of family members. When the British settlers first landed on Sydney cove, they thought the land belong to none, but only after a short amount of time the discovered the indigenous wanting to take the land and make it theirs. So, the British started changing everything the indigenous way of culture taking their children and putting them in new homes where they can adapt to the British environment and culture. So, this proves that having the day changes would benefit everyone, and we can all come together peacefully to celebrate Australia day with happiness and no harm to nobody in this country without it affecting anyone in any way possible.

We should change Australia Day. Australia day was originally a day for Australian Citizens and people of Australia to celebrate the Anniversary of the first fleet finding the Australian land at Sydney Cove. Captain Arthur Fillip on the 26th of January 1788 the First Fleet arrived to Australia. To the white, they find this day as a day to celebrate as for the Australians recognised for the 26th of January to be a national public holiday, this was announced during 1903. Although this may sound as a happy celebration it is not found to be much of a 'celebration' for the indigenous. For the Indigenous, on the date of 26th January 1788 when the White invaded their land it was the beginning of torture. 20,000-60,000 many Indigenous died during battle with the white settlers. This fight was un-fair as the Indigenous only fought with spears and arrows, as for the white, had guns. Children were separated by their mother's and father's to be put in white homes expected to learn their language and way of living so easily. Australia Day is found to be a day of fun and connecting with friends and family enjoying the holiday and celebrating with a smile. Forgetting that many of the Indigenous ancestors lost their lives, children and homes. 48% of Australians disagreed to moving the date as for 28% agreed. The date should be moved as for many Australians find the day as a day of grief for their ancestors and the loss of their homes and land.

I believe that we shouldn’t change the date instead bring another new day from the Indigenous. I believe this is reasonable and all Australian's would be happy with this. The Indigenous would stop protesting on Australia day and instead wait for their day for themselves, and the other Australians would also be happy because they still have their public holiday and their free day at the beach on the barbie.

 We should change Australia day for multiple reasons. Australia day for Indigenous Australians is a day they remember as a massacre and believe that the day should change because the 26th of January is a day of mourning and trauma for indigenous Australians this day also reminds them of the lost/stolen generation and how their children were taking from them and put in white homes losing their culture. When the British settlers first landed on Sydney cove, they thought the land belong to none, but only after a short amount of time the discovered the indigenous wanting to take the land and make it theirs.

The argument over changing the date of Australia Day has started a discussion on national identity and changing the date.

Numerous protests have taken place, with people pushing for a shift from January 26th, a date seen by many as symbolizing the beginning of colonial oppression. For instance, Indigenous leaders have voiced their concerns, emphasizing the need for a day that acknowledges their rich culture and traditions, rather than commemorating a painful past. This movement has prompted governments and communities to reconsider the significance of Australia Day, highlighting the ongoing journey towards reconciliation and a more inclusive national narrative.

The Australia day date should change. 41.5% of Australians agree.If we did keep it the same, then think of how many First Nation people would be dissapointed. Jan 26th is the day the first fleet arrived. The British settlers stripped the Aboriginals of their land, children and culture. They brought diseased which killed around 70% of the Indigenous population. These are some reasons I believe the date should change. We aren't REMOVING Australia day we are only changing the date.
