Through my educator interview it was stated that she likes to use the Gradual Release Model (GRR) for students support/success. The GRR is a model of instruction that systematically transfers responsibility for learning from the teacher tot he student. Although similar to the Scaffolding Model, scaffolding is a key component of the “We Do” “You Do”. GRR provides the overall structure.

Depending on the goal my interviewee will use quick check-ins and have the students verbally explain their thinking out loud so that she can measure where her students are in need of more support.

She will revisits the “I Do” “We Do” “You Do” to rebuild confidence and understanding. Being flexible and responsive is crucial, sometimes all it takes is how you present the concept to them, something more hands on or visual is more reachable.

Pay attention to how kids are reacting, what they’re producing, and what type of support they’re reaching for.
Document and report back to the MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) to brainstorm interventions and track progress.
Creating a flexible environment in order to cater to student success whether that is reteaching, switching strategies, or collaborating with specialists.
