The Legend of the Arab Father
According to this legend, during the most glorious period of Harput, a severe and unbearable heat begins in the summer months. This temperature increases so much that the lands and hills crack and the drought spreads all over Harput. In those days, an old woman named Selvi was told in a dream that if Arab Baba took his head out of his sarcophagus and threw it into the stream, it would rain again and drought would be prevented. This woman begins to have the same dream every night, and the same words are repeated to her. On the other hand, the temperature in Harput is increasing day by day. The woman, who constantly sees the same dream, finally takes the head of Arab Baba one night from her coffin and throws it into the stream. Thereupon, heavy rains begin and flood the city. This time, the Arab Father himself entered the woman's dream and said to her, "Give me back my head that you took from my coffin and threw it into the stream. If you do not give it back, the rains will not stop and disasters will follow each other in this city.” Frightened by this, the woman runs to the stream. He finds the head of Arap Baba and puts it in his coffin. After that, the rain suddenly stops and life returns to normal in Harput. It is said that, upon this incident, the Cypress woman suffers from a terrible disease and suffers for days and dies.

In a different version of the myth, the old woman is forced into it by the townspeople. His dream, which he told his neighbors, spread all over Harput. Days passed and not a drop of rain fell in Harput. Famine is at hand. Desperate people try to persuade Nine Selvi to cut off the head of Arap Baba. However, when the old woman does not dare to do so, the people gathered around her house one night begin to stone the house.

In another way, the decapitation of Arap Baba is attributed to the Armenians in Harput. An Armenian magician living in Harput told the daughter of a wealthy family, “There is a solution to the drought. If the head of a dead person with a strong knowledge is cut off and thrown into the water, it will rain and the drought will end.” says. Thereupon, the girl who goes to Arab Baba's tomb at night breaks the lock of the door and enters. When he opened the lid of the coffin, he saw the body of Arab Baba, who had never decomposed until then, he was afraid and left the tomb. When he leaves the tomb a little, he returns to beheaded again. She sees a new one standing in place of the lock she had just broken with a stone. He breaks it with a stone and enters. He cuts off the head of Arab Baba with the knife next to him, puts it in a cloth sack, takes it and throws it into a stream. From that moment on, lightning begins to flash in the sky, and the punishment and wrath of Allahu ta'ala begin to manifest. When dawn breaks, it rains in torrential downpours. Rain soon becomes a disaster. The mansion where the girl who beheaded Arab Baba is found is stoned for forty days and forty nights. The girl sees Arab Baba in a dream one night and Arab Baba says to the girl, "Bring my head, put it back!" says. Thereupon, the girl who went to the creek searched for the severed head for a long time, then found it and brought it to the tomb and placed it next to her. After a short while the rain stops and the sun comes out. The girl who cut off the head of Arap Baba suffers a lot at the moment of death. After he dies, his corpse is smashed against the walls. His family just cries in the face of this situation. Because nothing will come of them.

XIII. It is said that Arab Baba, who is rumored to have lived in the 16th century, is one of the Seljuk commanders who came for the conquest of Harput and is also a great saint. Arab Baba, who sometimes uses a sword to spread Islam, often gives sermons and advice to show people the right way. He is often said to have said, "I came with the sword, I will go with the pen". His date of death is unknown.

The masjid and the mausoleum have been restored by the General Directorate of Foundations in recent years, the upper floor of the mausoleum has been plastered, its flooring has been overhauled, and the outer wall coverings have been renewed. The mausoleum does not contain any ornamental elements. The main feature of the tomb is the rectangular planned lower (mummy) floor. This place differs from most of the Seljuk era mausoleums in Anatolia in that it contains both a different cover and mummy. The mummy section is entered through a one-metre-high low-arched door opening near the west end of the south façade. The mummified corpse was placed in a large wooden tomb, and a wooden lid was made above it, level with the floor. When viewed from the door, it looks like a flat surface. When the cover is removed and the lid is opened, the corpse is seen inside the chest. The tomb of Arap Baba is a good example of this type with its integration with the mosque on the outside, but having an almost independent internal structure.

Another legend told about Arap Baba, who is believed to be a person of miracles, is as follows. Arap Baba was a traveler who came to Harput from Arabia. He died here after staying in Harput for 2-3 months on one of his visits. Since there were very severe winter seasons in Harput at that time, those who died in the winter season were left in Korhane due to the harsh winter conditions. For this reason, the people of Harput, who left the corpse of Arap Baba in Korhane, came for burial when the spring came and the ice melted, they were surprised to see the undecomposed corpse of Arap Baba.
