One U.S. dollar is 4055.34 Riel. Many people believe that the name of the currency comes from the Mekong riverfish, the riel ("small fish" in Khmer). It is more likely that the name comes from the high Mexican Reel. On entering Cambodia I headed straight towards an ATM trade machine. I put in American money (dollars) and got Cambodian money back out! Unfortunately when out side, instead of hearing people laughing and talking, you hear constant notification sounds from all around you... but you get used to it.
